New rules for older cars.
Love having my phone on the dashboard. The clip holds my phone securely even with a big case. It does slip off the dash though.

A good alternative
Not sure the rating categories fit the product. Works OK, however a lot of the new dashboards do not have a lip to accommodate. Found it works using the sun visor.

Not for curvy dashboard in butom and top!!!
It seems to be practical but in most cases its not, it will work on a desk good but not on a dashboard so much because of the curves on the top and bottom of the dash, after just few little potholes it will move out and fall!

In hot weather, the lower pre-molded clip loses form and thus gripping power.
I have a 2019 Chevy Impala and this device seemed perfect for the configuration of my dashboard. After a week of use, the lower portion lost its grip and I am guessing it is because of the heat generated inside the car when sitting outside in the sun. Disappointing.

Love the clamp to dashboard feature.
Love the top clamp for the phone holder. I really like the bottom spring like clamp on the bottom, unfortunately it is a one piece of plastic that loses its holing ability after 3 days of use due to the summer heat that softens the plastic and can no longer keep the grip on to the dashboard. It would be better with a metal spring in the same shape as the current piece of plastic that would maintain the grip needed for it not to lose its shape & grip. I still love the idea, but for the additional cost of a piece of metal on the base would be excellent.

It will not hold to a dashboard with a phone in it.
The product fails miserably to perform its prime purpose of holding your phone while driving. Once the phone is in it and you hit the breaks even at a fairly low speed it will slip off and end up on a floor below your feet while driving creating potentially hazardous situation. Wish there was an -1 star option for rating.

Good phone holder
If you have a thin dash lip behind your steering wheel like on my Honda Accord 2013, it works great. Holds my Otter Box iPhone 7plus.
