Don't bother with other fans, just get this one
This is a fantastic fan and I recommend this purchase. I live in a hot and humid climate with exceptionally expensive electric rates, so I tend to rely on fans more than air conditioning. I have gone through seven fans in the past two years, all name brand. I purchased two off-brand metal bladed fans a year ago and those are great except they are very loud and are dangerous with small curious children in the house. This led me to Vornado. Here are my points to consider: Pros: Reasonably quiet, even at the highest setting. REALLY moves air. My living room is 22' across and it has no trouble directing air that far. Size--this is a very small fan in comparison to the other fans I've owned (box, pedestal, floor, table), yet it does a better job. Appearance--looks pretty, and isn't an eyesore like other fans Safety--my 1.5-year old has failed in her attempts to shove her fingers through the grill. I'm sure she could if she tried harder, but it wouldn't be easy. Efficiency--I've been without power for two months now (thanks, typhoon) and rely on a power inverter. With this plugged in, it uses 50w at the highest setting. That's compared to my pedestal fan that uses 75w at the lowest setting. Cons: Price--this is not cheap! I purchased this 'repackaged' from Amazon and it saved me $15 from anywhere else I could find online. Buttons--I think the shiny buttons are meant to attract small children, and it does that very well. Though, I don't know where else the buttons could be and still be convenient for adults to adjust. Unless it was a classic dial adjustment. Speed settings--level 3 and 4 are really the only speeds I've used and I can't imagine using anything less...the lower two levels just seem a little useless. But maybe if I didn't live in the tropics, the lower settings might be useful for a whisper of air movement here or there. Lastly, I wanted to address a couple of things I read in reviews. First, this fan CAN be used to direct air at you, as you would a normal fan. It does a very good job at that, in fact. It's just not maximizing the fan's potential as a whole room air circulator if you choose to aim it at yourself for cooling. Secondly, this fan is not hard at all to adjust. I'm not sure what people are attempting to do in terms of angle adjustment, but you simply slide it and it's done. And no--it does not slide out of position on it's own. I'm not kidding, it's very simple and effective. I chose the 660 versus other models based on reviews citing efficiency, and also because it looks nicer than similar models. I am happy with this purchase, it's better than I expected it to be, and I'll be buying two more for the rest of my house...as my budget allows. Update: here I am YEARS later and this is going as strong as day one. The only way you can tell itโs so old is that the white plastic has completely yellowed. Buy the black! But still buy this fan!

Quiet wind machine
I use it in the living room. I need a fan blowing on me most of the year. I can put it all the way across the room, put it on the lowest speed setting and it it's like the best breeze I ever felt while being totally silent. On full speed it's a little bit noisy but nothing radical. I'm amazed by how much air this thing moves. It's like being in front of a much larger fan. The size makes it pretty easy to find a good place and it's easy to move it. Aiming isn't critical because it has a wider coverage area than you'd think just by looking at it. I was hesitant because of the high price for a plastic fan but now I'm glad I bought it. The motor looks like it's relatively strong so I'm hoping it'll be reliable. I don't like the soft buttons that beep though. I want physical dial. Those seem more reliable to me.

Excellent Fan. A Good Solution for Air Circulation.
The fan was delivered, fully assembled. It runs very quietly. This fan has a number of operating speeds and clear, straightforward control buttons. It has a very clear user's manual too. And it even looks sleek and elegant. I highly recommend this item.

Highly recommend (for a small-medium size bedroom)
"It's getting hot in here, so hot, so take off all your"....wait you want me to what? Well, rather than taking off your clothes like Nelly suggested, we recommend picking up a Vornado air circulator to cool down your room rather than taking off all your clothes to beat the heat. Now a couple of things to know before you make the big jump to purchase this item. Is it expensive? YES! Will it cool your room down without needing to buy an expensive AC? Sort of. The fan does do a nice job of circulating the air around the room. Placing the fan with the head projected at the ceiling or wall will make the air bounce around in multiple directions to make the "feeling" of the air being circulated around no matter where you stand at. HOWEVER, the large to medium size models does a nice job of "cooling" down a small-medium size room, but it does not have the same impact on VAULTED CEILINGS. We suggest buying a larger model than the large size circulator if you have vaulted ceilings. You will still feel the air being circulated, but not as strongly as you would compared to it being placed in a non-vaulted ceiling area. It does not do a good job of cooling a room with hot air inside. We found that a combination of turning on the AC and turning on the fan allows the cold air to be circulated around nicely, however when the AC was turned off, the circulator would then just blow hot air around. We have a Dyson Pure Cool Link WiFi-Enabled Air Purifier, White and this does a much better job of cooling the room down compared to the $400 Dyson. Our Rating Scale Design: 5/5 Utility: 5/5 Effectiveness: 5/5 Is it worth it?: To put it frankly, yes! It does do a nice job of cooling down your room. It is worth every penny (even though it is incredibly expensive!) Noticeable flaws: The newer model does come with a remote control which is a small nuisance in an age of remote access that you have to turn this device on manually. We tried going around this by adding a smart plug to have it turn on and off, HOWEVER we found that the smart plug only turned the fan off, BUT it doesn't turn the fan on. Our answers to the frequently asked questions: Does this fan oscillate? Unfortunately no. This fan stays in one position, however the one position allows the air to circulate throughout the room. You could move the fan up and down, but that is the extent in which the fan moves. Does this fan automatically rotate back and forth, or does is it just stay in one set position? In on set position unfortunately. Noise level? It is quite noisy at high levels. We would compare the same noise equivalent to the Dyson Air at high levels. The lower fan settings is less audible, but it is nothing overly noisy that it would be a distraction. Overall, we highly recommend the Vornado circulator to anyone in need of an innovative fan to cool down a small-medium size room. Like our review? Hit the "Yes" button below for it being useful. Fantastic But Flawed.
The Vornado 660 Large Whole Room Air Circulator is an impressive but flawed appliance. I own several of these, the largest model in this series of Vornadoโs lineup, and they largely live up to their advertised claims. They deliver powerful air circulation, effectively cooling and moving air throughout large spaces. For the most part, their performance is reliable and consistent. However, one significant drawback prevents this fan from being a perfect fit for modern households: the absence of any remote operation capability, not smart home ready. Sadly, can't never be integrated into any smart home environment. Unlike some of Vornadoโs other models that feature mechanical turning knobs, the 660 relies on push buttons, which are incompatible with remote outlets, smart plugs, or any form of remote control. It will always return to off state, when regain power, during power interruption. This limitation is particularly frustrating for those who prioritize home automation. For comparison, Vornadoโs next closest model in size, the VFAN Sr., costs around $250 and still doesnโt offer robust remote operation options, but at least, it has a turning knob (excluding their pedestal model fans). Additionally, the premium version of this exact fan (660 AE) has Amazon smart home integration, and it is practically useless, as it locks users into a single, underwhelming ecosystem that lacks flexibility. Why would anyone wants more open microphone from mega corp all over their home anyway. In my home, I rely on smart outlets (Wi-Fi or Zigbee) and a Node-RED automation script to activate appliances based on indoor temperature and humidity levels. Unfortunately, the Vornado 660โs capacitive controls make it incompatible with these setups (SwitchBot isn't a viable or reliable method either). When selecting home appliances, I prioritize models with physical turning knobs, as they work seamlessly with smart plugs and remote switches. For instance, Holmes' appliances often incorporate mechanical knobs, making them far more automation-friendly. I suspect Vornado is fully aware of this limitation but chooses not to address it, likely because the 660 sells exceptionally well as is. If a product is already a bestseller, why invest in changes? However, this intentional design choice feels like a disservice to buyers seeking modern convenience. I would love to purchase more of these large units for their powerful and amazing performance, but the lack of viable remote operation has pushed me to explore alternatives. One such alternative is the Lasko Wind Machine Air Circulator Fan (20" Model 3300), which offers a 20-inch blade and mechanical on/off knobs at roughly half the price of the Vornado 660. The lower cost was a bonus, but my decision was driven by its compatibility with my smart home setup. I value flexibility in controlling my appliances, whether through remote dial dimmers, rocker or capacitive switches, voice commands, environmental triggers (like temperature or humidity), motion sensors, door contacts, millimeter-wave presence detectors, or infrared remote controls. Unfortunately, none of these smart home devices or switches can operate the Vornado 660. Would I recommend the Vornado 660? If youโre content with a โdumbโ appliance that requires manual interaction to turn on or off, this fan is an excellent choice for its power, performance and reliability. However, if youโre like me and prefer the convenience and versatility of smart home automation, steer clear of this particular model. Its lack of remote operation options makes it a poor fit for those who want a fan that integrates seamlessly into a modern, connected home. This will never operate remotely through any means within a smart home automation environment.

Really puts out Super COLD air
Really cold output. Best fan ever! I will be buying another. On low it is quiet. Up high not so quiet. Low works great though.

Great solution for a house with AC but rooms that stay "warm"
It's summer. If you are lucky, you have air conditioning. Most people in Seattle do not. When we purchased our house, one of the first things we did was get AC. Why? Because my wife (and honestly I) can't sleep in a hot room. We have a 3 story, new house. As such it's incredibly well insulated and when it gets hot, it stays hot for a long while. When purchasing our house though, we made the mistake of getting whole house air conditioning because our house was plumbed for it. However in hindsight, that was a mistake. We would have been way better off installing a Ductless Mini-Split system in our 3 bedrooms. This would have provided the correct sleeping temperature in the only rooms that we need cooling, without wasting money cooling our whole house (mostly unnecessary here in Seattle). Ductless mini-split is designed for people that don't have ducting (radiant heat or no heat), but they can also act as heat pumps and heat in the winter. Think of them as basically an air conditioner that can run in reverse to heat as well. Anyway, what's done is done. We have a problem though. Our bedroom is quite large (with vaulted ceilings), and on a moderately warm day (> 76) our room gets beaten by the sun, and with the vaulted ceilings doesn't really cool down enough by the evening. After a few years of pondering a solution, it turned out some old school tech was all that was needed. A Fan. What is it? The Vornado 660 Whole Room Air Circulator is a Fan, but it's not really designed to blow air at you. It's designed to circulate the air in the room. And boy does this thing move air around. It turns out that air movement (or the lack theirof) is the primary reason our room didn't cool down. Our ceiling would collect hot air, and that hot air would fall as the day went on, crushing the ability for our ducts to push enough cool air to keep things comfy. You can see from the photo, that this thing looks nice. It comes in White and Black [$99 @ Amazon]. We chose white for our room. It's not a nice looking as say the $300-$400 Dyson Fans, but the cost / benefit to this guy is kinda nuts in my opinion. The reason it's tilted up because you are supposed to "point" it at say the corner ceiling of your room to get air circulating. You do not point it at your bed for example. Why did you get it? I got this particular Fan because of the rave reviews on Amazon, and my general familiarity with Vornado. I wanted to love the idea of getting a Dyson fan, but the reviews are pretty mixed and the cost is pretty high. How has it made your life better? We've had this Fan for a few weeks and my general observation is that it's cooled our room about 3-4 degrees. That's a pretty substantial difference for us. I have placed it within the vicinity of our duct, and so it managed to capture cool air (roughly 50-60 degree) and blow it straight up to the vaulted ceiling, pushing the hotter air down back into the room. The fan has 4 speed settings. The lowest setting produces a very comfortable flow of air with minimal noise. The 2nd setting is a bit stronger with a bit louder, but tolerable noise for sleeping. 3 and 4 are left for mega hot days (80+ degrees outside) and we leave it on 3-4 during the day and then 1-2 at night. Are you going to keep it? This should last a good long time. We plan on getting a smaller model for our daughter's room which has a different problem. Too cold in the winter as her room is over our garage, and it tends to be a cold spot in our house.

This fan really blows... air
Bought a 660 to help circulate air in an upstairs/converted attic. Performs admirably. It will take some trial and error to find the best position and speed. PROS Pushes a heck of a lot of air. Absolutely ridiculous amounts on max. Seriously. I can't stress that enough. I put it by my backdoor, down a hallway and instantly felt the air on the other side of the house right after turning it on. 4 speeds. Barely audible on speed 1. Speed 2 a bit louder, but its mainly just airflow noise. Tilts effortlessly up to 90 degrees (pointing straight up) Doesn't take up much floor space. It's actually much smaller than my tabletop fan. Blows much more air on speed 2 than my tabletop fan does on it's max speed and is less audible. Pairs well with my air conditioner to push air to the other side of the house. Beeps when turning on or changing speeds. But it's a quiet beep. My air conditioner on the other hand is almost comically loud. CONS Power cable is a bit too short in my opinion. I think it's about 6 feet long or so. 10 or 12 feet would have been better. There are some places where I would like to put it, but can't without using an extension cord, and I really don't want to do that. Since the power buttons aren't mechanical, I don't think you can use this with a timer or smart device. Doesn't bother me at all, but felt I should mention it. GRIPES Always defaults to max speed when turning it on. I almost never use it on max. It's too loud for a bedroom, but got dayum does it feel like you're in a wind tunnel on max. Can't really fault it for that. Power buttons are on the top/back of the unit. Kind of a strange location. Not a deal breaker so it gets a gripe. I haven't had to clean it yet. Doesn't seem like too much trouble to open, but I can't really comment on that yet. All in all I am very happy with it. Will probably buy another one down the line for myself or as a gift.
