SMALL EDITION WITH ONLY 11 FABLES ILLUSTRATED
This “Little Apple Book” is a small edition of 10 Fables depicted by the late American illustrator Charles Santore (died 2019). They include illustrations for probably the most famous 11, namely “The Grasshopper and The Owl”, “The Wolf and The Crane”, “The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing”, “The Vain Jackdaw”, “The Lion and The Mouse”, “The Fox and The Grapes”, “The Fox and The Crow”, “The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse”, “The Bear and The Bees”, “The Grasshopper and The Ants” and “The Hare and The Tortoise”. The illustrations are very colourful and beautiful. It lacks a pull-out showing the full finishing line in “The Hare and The Tortoise”. The Fables and accompanying “Morals” are summarized pithily. However other editions by Santore - which are oversize (e.g. “The Classic”) , contain 24 Fables plus the pull-out. This edition may be wanted for its fair price and small size, but the selection of illustrations is small too.
