Makeblock Me LED Matrix 8×16 for mBot robot kit

Makeblock is a manufacturer of STEM oriented products for both students and hobbyists. They've taken a clever route of adding RJ25 (like your phone line) connectors to most all of their pieces and for those focusing on the use of the bots or just more interested in the programming side of the 'maker' movement. This means that instead of whipping out your soldering gun and breadboards, you can simply plug'n'play most of the sensors and output devices (like this LED matrix) on your bot. I love it. To be complete, Makeblock has not taken one route - you can still get to pins and do soldering as you progress. This means that the "Starter" in the Starter Robot name is not a limiting factor. I wanted to get an idea of what my autonomous bot was doing (in terms of the program it was executing) as it traveled around my kitchen, so I added this matrix to output distances and other info. Makeblock does a couple of things (like most makers of sensors and output devices) and supplies both libraries and code samples so you can integrate this right away. They also include 'blocks' to the mBlock visual programming language (based on MIT's Scratch programming language) that make controlling the matrix very easy. You can also, of course, use the matrix to display more 'fun' and creative things, but artsy things elude me. Maybe they are right down your aisle.

This is single-handedly the best add-on to the Makeblock robot products. Allows you to put numbers, clocks, and custom "faces" on the display. Code allows you to customize exactly what is put on the display. (Took me 2 minutes in Scratch to give the robot a Cyclops eye which looks from side to side)

Wheel broke after an hours use! Thank goodness, it comes with extras! Makes me think I'm going to need many more of these for my class use!

I'm always impressed with the well thought out products and the modular ability of Makeblock. These products are really great and allow your robot to grow with you as you'r skills and needs develop. I'm looking forward to ordering more!

I bought this as a prize for a steam car building contest. My students love building and programming their own robot!

Fonctionne très bien. Ne pas hésiter à le monter " la tête en bas", pour pouvoir fixer dessus le module suiveur se ligne (avec des vis)

Utilisé sur mbot ranger, cet accessoire est très sympa pour faire évoluer le robot, afficher des messages etc... Pas déçu de cet achat

Unfortunately I do not have any other equipment that uses this style of connector. But luckily was easily converted to work on a breadboard.

Facile da montare anche se sprovvisto di istruzioni, è subito piaciuto a mia figlia, che ha creato vari disegni, faccie e scritte. Dà a mbot una marcia più naturale e piacevole!
