Very reliable and simple to use
I have owned variations of this humidifier over the past 4 years, and the unit has not changed much over the years. The latest version has a chamber where you can add scents, which I do not use. The pros 1 - Unit is very simple to use. You fill the tank with water, plop it on the base, plug it in, and turn it on. Nothing fancy and very straight-forward. 2 - You can buy separately an antimicrobial cartridge insert which you drop into the water tank which is supposed to prevent the growth of mold and odor causing microbes keeping the tank cleaner longer. 3 - You can buy a demineralization cartridge which replaces the tank lid which prevents white dust and prevents the release of minerals from your water. 4 - The accessories as mentioned in #2 and #3 are not too expensive when compare to other humidifiers made by others. 5 - The buttons are straight forward - you have three settings. And the night light is simple to operate. 6 - The water tank holds enough water to last at least 3 nights when full and used for a small to medium sized room. (I recommend that you only fill the tank half way and rise after every night's use.) 7 - Very compact in size given its reliability and capacity. The cons - I only have one complaint. 1 - This can be easier to clean if the hole where you insert the water was larger. I would like to get a a sponge stick in there to clean the tank better, but you really cannot do this - The hole is maybe 1.5 inches in diameter? I prefer this humidifier over all other units which cost $100+ and require expensive accessories. This humidifier will last you at least several years if you take care of it, but given the price, you would not feel too bad just throwing this out after a year or two of use.

Exactly What I Wanted... mostly
This is a very nice humidifier. I've tried others that were awkward to refill because they would topple like a dreidel. This has a nice square top so you can place it upside down on the counter to refill it with distilled water hands free. The capacity is very robust, a gallon and that's plenty for me. My only complaints are that the cord is dedicated, in other words you can't unplug it from the unit. I don't mind too much but if you want to take the whole unit to the kitchen then you have to unplug the cord which dangles. Not a deal breaker but a detachable cord would be nice. The second and biggest complaint is the color of the night light, BLUE?! Everybody today knows blue light keeps your brain awake or wakes up a sleeping brain. The light should be RED. All of the humidifiers I've looked at use blue night lights, they should all be red to keep your brain asleep. I just never turn it on, and I do appreciate that it has it's own button that I never press. Others that I've tried you have to cycle through the settings where you end up turning the night light on even when you don't want it. So kudos to PureGuardian for giving the night light it's own button. Just change the lights to red please!!! I would highly recommend this humidifier to anyone unless they find one just as good but with a Red light and not a Blue light.

Good unit
Have had the PureGardian humidifier for about a month now and I like it very much. I use it for one large room (15' x 18') and it does the job nicely. It's easy to operate -- though at first I did not realize that the off/on switch was also the 'speed' button (from Off, press it once to turn it on low, then press again for medium, then again for high) and fill. It's true that on high a full container does not last through an entire night, so I suppose a slightly larger container would be nice; but aesthetically it is a nice looking unit and isn't too large, so it can be placed on a table without looking out of place. I find I usually keep the blue night light on at night because it gives it a nice look without being too distracting. I have had one problem with the unit, but I suppose it was my fault. There is a valve inside at the top of the unit which, really, shouldn't be touched; however, I thought it was stuck at one point and poked it with my finger (lightly, I swear!) and broke the hinge. So then it didn't act as a valve and instead just laid on top of the opening, which obviously was not good and was blocking the mist. I needed the humidifier badly and didn't feel like going through the whole customer service / return / repair rigmarole, so I gave it another good poke and broke the d*mn thing right off (purposely) and moved it over to the side where it wasn't blocking the opening. Seems to work just fine. One other thing is that at first I placed it on a large coffee table, but I found that everything on the table was soaked after a while. The mist shoots upwards, obviously, but I had to put a fan on it (a small one on low) to disperse it so that it didn't soak the immediate area. That seemed to do the trick.

Not too shabby
Overall this is a very good humidifier. The ability to turn off the illuminating, blue LED is a plus if you're annoyed by light in the room when you're trying to sleep. The high/medium/low settings are also basically a mandatory (but always welcome) addition a lower-level price point so you can control the output of the device. The shape is definitely enticing and not boxy or off putting. I have only used distilled water in this machine. It's not worth my time and hassle to take apart and clean the ultrasonic vibrator and risk damaging it in the event of mineral deposits from regular tap water. In regards to noise, yes the ultrasonic humidifier models definitely are quiet. Is it dead silent? No. I can definitely hear a light humming sound which, if placed right by your nightstand, may keep you up. That said, my bedroom is only 12'x12', so if you have a larger room and/or don't mind a little bit of white background noise you should be more than fine. After a few minutes of lying down I don't notice it anymore. The more awkward thing about this device is filling it up. I would've loved to have a hole at the top, but instead you have to remove the blue tank, flip it over, unscrew a cap, then fill it. It can be a bit weird to grip this large conical tank, especially if you have week arms or grip. It's not impossible by any means, just the lack of handles or grippy surfaces could make it a challenge to some. There are a few small drops of water that may spill out when doing this, but nothing torrential.

Cats with dry skin? Buy this right meow!
After moving to a coastal region my cats started to get dry, itchy skin. I wasn't sure if I should look into a dehumidifier for the southern area humidity or humidifier for the salt air. I am very pleased to find that this humidifier is the answer to our problem. I started to get frustrated with all the fancy options some of the other models have because I don't need or want aromas or oils or USB or LED I just want what this one has. It states to fill with water only. It has easy clean up & easy refill. It has 3 settings that I tried & I could tell it worked after less than 24 hours. I started out on medium & now use on low all the time. I don't have to fill it up as much when it is on low. I only had to fill it up daily when it was on med. now I only fill it up every couple of days. It has a night light that is optional. I don't know how noisy or bubbly these things usually are as this is my first humidifier but I can tell you this one isn't very noisy at all. It bubbles once after a refill & I sleep like a baby kitty every night. My cats do as well & I can tell they are just as pleased with the purchase. They are very comfortable now & I hope this helps any one with the same problem because if you try to find help online it will only tell you change their diet & that could be way more expensive than this purchase. They are all together in a very large bedroom or I would look into one for upstairs & one for downstairs. If you have cats or dogs with dry, itchy skin order this right meow!

Not right for our young toddler...
Very quiet with nice ambient night light. Smaller footprint then some other gallon units. Unfortunately, I had 3 issues: 1) Bright power light mentioned many times in reviews. Taping over will do no good because light also shines through gap behind button. I had to wrap a towel around base of unit to dim for my toddlers room. 2) No way to reach in to scrub it out. I don't care what it's made out of...if water is standing in something...and people are sick...it needs to be scrubbed. I've seen units you can reach your hand into. 3) what irked me the most..,,power button and mist volume are the same button. Nightlight is a separate button. Push power button once, the unit turns on, you get level 1 and the night light automatically comes on. Press again, level 2, again level 3, again and it turns off. So, to go from the highest level, which will soak everything around it if left on for long back to one the very bright night light will come on and has to be turned off at another button. You will want to make adjustments to the volume. I couldn't have this bright nightlight coming on as frequently as I needed to change from 3 to 1. I'm trying to get a sick, fretful, easily distracted toddler to sleep....there's no room for a strobe. For an older kid or adult, this probably wouldn't be an issues. After a 3 nights, I know this isn't the unit for us. I actually picked up a unit that's Walgreens brand that doesn't have any of these issues. It also has a carry handle and the spout directs the flow to a target area which is nice. I don't know why this isn't a standard feature...on this unit the stream goes straight up. The Walgreens model does have a greater footprint (but maybe be more sturdy against being knocked over by kids.) Who knows how long it will last but I like the features much more even though it does make more of a trickling noise...which I almost sort of like actually. People pay for "water features" to hear that sound.

Easy to use, quiet, does the job
It was a little tricky at first figuring out the assembly but once I figured out what everything is and where everything connects, it’s super easy to use. It makes a little “drip drip” noise the first few minutes after being refilled, but then it’s quiet and makes a barely noticeable shhhh sound. It has 3 levels of power, and if it’s on the highest power all the water is gone by the next morning. (On the lowest power I get 3 nights out of it.) The lowest power is enough for my son’s smallish bedroom most nights, but if it’s particularly dry or he’s sick, I put it on a higher level. I have found the bottom part gets a little icky but it’s easy to wipe down with just a damp paper towel. Also there is some dripping when I take it out to refill. All in all we’ve been very happy with it.

Works well but is a slime incubator
The humidifier works pretty well overall. It's easy to fill, nearly silent except for an occasional water gurgle, produces mist at 3 flow levels, and the night light can be turned off (Yay!). I wanted to put it on a counter so it's fine for me, but it cannot be placed on a floor or the surrounding surface will get wet. I use one of their demineralization filters and it's cut the level of white residue down to a minimal level. My big complaint is cleaning it. After a week or so, it starts to get slimy. The base has a lot of nooks and crannies, but at least they're accessible to clean with a brush or cloth (you'll want a more substantial brush than the one that's provided to clean the ultrasonic disc), followed by soaking the inaccessible disc depression in a vinegar solution. The white mist nozzle on the top can be removed for cleaning but the inside of the nozzle doesn't permit access, so I also soaked it in vinegar for a while. The mist tube is about 2 inches in diameter so you can't get your hand in there but you can use a 3" bottle brush pretty well. However, there is zero access to the inside of the tank itself. I have an antimicrobial cartridge in there, but lord only knows if it's being effective. If they'd made a way to screw off the top of the tank for cleaning, I probably would have given this 5 stars. I haven't seen a humidifier yet that's truly easy to clean without an assortment of brushes and products, but this is way easier than the large evaporative humidifier or warm mist model that I previously owned, and it's much easier to use. ETA: After owning this for a while, the cleaning issues have become very problematic. There's no way to get the nooks and crannies thoroughly cleaned, and as previously noted, there's no access to the interior of the tank. I moved from using vinegar to bleach without any better success. This unit is constantly slimy and I’ve had to throw it out. Just another disposable product due to poor design.
