Samsung Xpress C460W Wireless Multifunction Color Laser Printer

I got Samsung Xpress C460W and was trilled on how nicely it is put together. I decided to retire my perfectly fine inkjet All-in-One HP printer, because I'm the one on many people out there who are printing like ... "once a month" or even less sometime. And as you can imagine, ink is drying out a little. When you turning inkjet printer on, it start cleaning heads, sucking out a LOT's of ink in the process. Repeat this couple times and half of your cartridge is gone! I started not liking this, especially because complete set of genuine HP 564 cartridges is about 60 bucks. And I'm replacing them at least twice a year. So, when prices for laser all-in-ones went down, it is time to upgrade! Laser printers have huge advantage before inkjet's. Ink has tendency to dry-out, but laser toner is ... already dry(naturally)! Awesome, right?! Plus, printouts are not smudging, like from inkjets. Couple practical things you should know if you buy this printer. UNPACKING - follow Quick Guide to remove all tape. - pull out Paper Tray, which for shipping is all the way into the printer body. It is not immediately obvious from Quick Setup Guide picture, but in working position, tray is NOT going all the way in the printer! I know, you will be tempted to insert it back all the way, as it was before... DO NOT DO THAT! I've myself, after loading it with paper tried that couple times, before realizing that it is NOT going to go all the way in! For normal operation it should stick out for about 4 inches. - after removing all tape and packaging, and turning ON printer, you will hear wheel spinning and printer initializing, the small thin cardboard strip will be spitted out by printer from the slot where print will be coming out. This is part of packaging. Just throw it away. - Remove each of the toner cartridges and as says User Guide - to distribute toner more evenly - shake it up/down left/right a little, then put it back. Please note - there is NO need to remove any tapes, of other packaging from toners! They are completely ready to print. And be careful NOT to TOUCH those narrow cylinders powdered in colored toner! INSTALLING DRIVER and SOFTWARE - (Win7) when inserting provided disk, I installed all offered software. It doesn't seemed to much. HP is offering more "stuff". - I've opted for Wireless printer setup only. I installed many software packages before, but this time I was truly amazed that ALL Wireless setup and configuration was done totally transparently for user by installer and when I clicked "Print Test Page" option - this concluded 100% installation process!!!! I did not have to do manually ANYTHING! Now, this is one perfect example of how all installations for devices should be handled! Excellent job, Samsung. - really important point is that this device was displayed on the networks as SECURED, locked one. HP I have is NOT secure and Win 7 on the Networks popup displaying little icon next to it, informing that this might be potential threat. So, this little, but important detail also is done correctly by Samsung. - at first, I was a bit disappointed to see that tiny and "outdated" grayscale display on printer front console, but after a while, I have realized that I will not be looking at or using it that often, so it is OK. - Mobile stuff is great too. I went to AppStore and installed Samsung app (search for "samsung printer"), there is only one. But is covers probably all printers made by Samsung. This model is listed there too. After install, just touched Settings line and selected "AUTO" (connect) to add printer. That's all. Set this up for my iPhone and iPad in 5 min. - MAC OS software is not included with the supplied disk, so for my MacBook I have downloaded and installed Driver only, printer works great! PRINTING - I have printed on really generic and cheap paper I have, and printout is a ... laser printer quality! Very good. - cartridges are suspiciously "slim", but with my infrequent printing needs I think, that Cartridges will easily last for entire year. Especially, if set to lower than Default print quality setting. - I have not tried NFC printing, when my son visit me, we will try in with his Nexus fone. - This printer, like all laser printers has pretty strong heating device, so it has strong magnetic field. Wireless and NFC devices also emitting some waves, so it is better to store it (couple feet) away from computer and other sensitive electronics. CONCLUSION: - Some reviewers are reporting (horrible) issues with printer, which look a lot like manufacturing defects. Mine seems to be OK and has no issues whatsoever. During software install, it looked online for updated version of software and did not found any, so I assume that provided disk has newest drivers and software. - Even this is not said explicitly, judging by spec's, this is more like personal printer/scanner/copier. But, for some odd reason, some people are buying this printer for office use... and then whining about lack of paper feed, duplex printing, handling custom papers and envelopes. This is ridiculous! It does not have these features - just look at the pic of it, and read specs! If you need printer like this for office use, get Samsung SL-C1860FW/XAA, or HP LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw - they have larger capacity cartridges and (most) features you are looking for. So, if you are normal and reasonable individual, in need of a decent laser all-in-one, do not let those 'tarded reviews to discourage you. Give this one a try, and you may like it. ... I do. :]

We got this printer for light home use, choosing it because it works with Linux and Mac. We are quite happy with the quality, as well as the relatively small size. Three things that weren't mentioned in the quick start guides that are useful to know. 1.) As mentioned in other reviews, once you put paper in the tray, it doesn't go back in flush with the machine but protrudes out 2-3 inches. Had I not read other reviews mentioning this, I would have thought the machine was broken. 2.) The eco mode is nice, but if you do copies while in eco mode, the copy comes out half size. You are also, if making a copy in eco mode, given the option to make a second pass, and the copy won't continue till you hit OK. (The default is no--a second pass makes a second copy of the image on the paper, so you'll have two half size images.) 3.) If configuring networking through the web interface, the default username is admin and the default password is sec00000 (5 zeros.). I set up networking through Linux, first connecting it to a wired network, then using arp-scan to get the address. After that I had to google for the default admin/sec00000 username password, but once I had that, I used the web interface to set up wireless, giving it a static IP. I downloaded the Linux and Mac drivers from Samsung's site. Once this was done, both Linux and Mac were easily able to use it as printer and scanner. (I think Mac software may be on the CD, but as the Mac I was using didn't have a CD drive, I didn't check). The printer also works with FreeBSD and OpenBSD. For the printing, I copied over the ppd from the Linux box and used CUPS to set it up. Scanning in both BSDs required me adding a line to the xerox.conf in /usr/local/etc/sane.d/xerox_mfp.conf. Under the line for Samsung C460 printers, add tcp <ip_address>. So far (only a day), we have found the print quality to be quite good. We don't give it heavy use--if we print more than 250 pages a year, that's a lot, and it seems as if it will be quite adequate for our needs. After reading other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised when I printed a photo--while probably not professional quality, it was quite good. For a home multifunction color laser printer under $300, we're finding this to be excellent. The price per page is probably not great--the cartridges do fewer pages than say, Brother, but our printing is very low volume. As HP just bought Samsung's printer division, cartridges will probably go up in price, but hopefully, when we do need to replace them, generic replacements will work. I've seen some generic cartridge sets with great Amazon reviews.

I've always wanted a laser printer but felt they were priced way beyond my budget. Then I found this Samsung Xpress multifunction color laser printer. The price here on Amazon fit my budget, and I have had great experience with other Samsung products, so I went ahead and got this printer. I'm so glad I did. First, the size: it actually has a smaller footprint than my Canon inkjet printer. It's just taller. I love the square shape! The toner is very easy to install or remove. Just open the front cover and pull the cartridge out to remove. And the new one slips in very nicely. To the left of the cartridges is a handy permanent color guide, so you always know which color to put where.. There's a set of photo instructions on the inside of the front cover, so you never have to go to your user manual to see how to install cartridges or deal with a paper jam. I love how the paper output is conveniently just below the control panel. There's a tiny pull-out tray that comes out just 2 inches beyond the machine body, so there's no danger of your paper falling on the floor. Some people complain about the warm-up time. I found that the warm-up time is no longer than an inkjet printer. A nice feature about the printing status window is that while you're printing it shows the amount of toner remaining. I just finished printing 26 color text pages. At the start of the print job, I had 98% of my black toner and 100% of the color toners. While printing these 26 pages, I loved that I could actually see how much toner these pages used. This live 'toner countdown' can be very handy for someone wanting to know just how much toner any specific print project will use. IMPORTANT: Regarding the paper tray, when I first set up the printer, I pulled out the paper tray to fill it, and when I reinserted it in the printer, it didn't go in all the way. I thought that something was wrong with the tray - or the printer body. After fussing with it for a long time and searching for help on the internet, I discovered that this is normal. When you pull the paper tray out, it expands. And when you reinsert it in the machine the front edge will no longer be flush with the machine body. There is a button in the center of the tray floor that you can push to compress the tray so that it will again be flush with the body. So, when considering purchasing this machine, if space is a factor, remember that this tray is designed to be jutting out about 3 1/2 inches from the machine body. The user manual is not clear on this. The print quality is outstanding! I had thought that my Canon printers had done a great job on clear print quality until I compared the inkjet printed sheets to the ones this Samsung Laser printer put out. The difference is brilliant! I cannot imagine going back to inkjet ever again! Some professional reviewers had said that photos printed on laser printers is 'muddy'. I did not find that to be the case. This Samsung printer put out great color photos! Overall, I'm thrilled with this printer. The only - very minor - feature that I wish this printer had that my inkjets have is the control panel display is not backlit. Other than that, this is an excellent printer sold at a fabulous price for what you get.

Buyer Beware. If you are like me you are probably here looking at this printer because of its low price. Let me be clear - click away now. This printer is absolute garbage. I should have known right away that the printer was going to be a failure after it was so slow to work on a wired network connection. Network wake up was just horrible and eventually just stopped working. After about 100 sheets we started to see little red dots showing up on printed pages these got progressively worse (see picture). Samsung recommended we change the toner cartridges to fix the problem. I was upset at this recommendation as all the color cartridges were over 75% full. Since I use the printer for proposals for my business I couldn't have the red dots so I followed their directions and replaced all the toner with factory replacements. The red dots persisted and continued to get worse. Strangely the new yellow cartridge ran out while all the other cartridges were still over 80%. The worst part of all this is the printer wouldn't print. I had to reset it every time we wanted to print. I took the old yellow cartridge and put it in and that's when the printer decided to become moody. It would just with no rhyme or reason stop printing. Nothing short of unplugging it and plugging it back in (also a Samsung recommendation) would get it to print. With the quality so poor and the red dots becoming so pronounced I put this printer in the garbage can and bought an HP that was $200 more. Bottom line: 1- Cheap color laser 2- Expensive to maintain 3- Poor print quality 4- Will break down on you 5- Samsung doesn't give a crap about you and their tech support will drive you to seek anger management counseling. 6- Avoid this printer and spend $1-200 more for an HP or other brand.

Paper tray can be a pain and software was useless to sync. I had to go into and dedicate an ip to get it to work. Plus no matter what the first time you have to plug into a usb to usb connection to add to network. Even though it has a WPS button??? So three stars even though printing being slow it is nice and crisp...

I bought this printer/copier to use in a small office that doesn't require a massive amount of printing monthly, but really needed the ability to print in color as well as make copies and scan. I had purchased a few Samsung printers/copiers/scanners over the years and have been impressed with the quality and how long they lasted, so decided to give this a try. I am very glad to have done so as it has turned out to be a great device. The color and output quality are great! While it may not be archival quality, I was very impressed with the scanning ability as well as copying. For such an inexpensive printer/copier/scanner you could likely forgive if there were a few corners cut, but this is in the same class as devices hundreds of dollars more. The toners are easy to change and also very affordable. All in all I would strongly recommend this printer/copier for small office use.

Just started using this machine, but couldn't be happier with ease of set up, printer size/footprint, functionality. Print quality is great, very quite, pretty fast printing for what I do. Wanted to leave behind ink jet constant cartridge replacements, gumming print head, and pricy ink. These carts are pricy, but very little waste unlike the ink jets I've owned. I'm a home user, not a business, so don't print everyday. Laser carts will be ready when I want to print. No more taking carts out to clean before I can print. Looked for weeks for a small laser multifunction printer, didn't care to have a fax function. For the price, size, and everything I need it to do, this can't be beat.

Maybe it works great if you have a windows whatever, but getting this thing to work with Mac is a total PITA. I love networking stuff, but this thing seems intentionally designed not to function with Apple products. A month of owning it and I still am taking my laptop over to plug it into the USB port. Go buy Epson or anything else but this.

excellent features and gr8 to print over WiFi from iPad or Android phone. Only issue is it seems to pick whole bunch of papers from tray at a time very often and papers get badly stuck frequently as a result

Excellent printer. Works as advertised. Very quick set up and installation. Wireless connection works well and the printing is very quick. Excellent quality printer.

So far so good. Easy setup and startup. A nice, small footprint for small spaces. Fairly silent printer - no klunking sounds. I was quite surprised with the entire Amazon experience and delivery as well - quick and easy. Crisp, clear printouts and very vivid colour. While this is not major, and I'm sure I can find this online and perhaps from the manufacturer, there isn't an instruction booklet for using the other functions such as the scanner.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. After one years use and 1 month past the warranty the ‘imaging unit’ went. My receptionist managed to reconfigure and it last another 8 months. But less than 2 years and it’s dead. Options are buy a new imagine unit or a new printer completely. Super unsatified that a printer only last 2 years time. How is that even possible?

The colour laser printer was easy to install. The quality of the print and the colour is excellent. I was not interested in having a printer with a fax, so I was pleased that this model included a copier and scanner without a fax.
