Purchase of the year.
I recently ended up with a $900 electric bill thanks to a week of 110 degree days in sunny California, so I decided to look into some alternatives to running central air all day. This little guy seemed to be the most well-reviewed out of all the options for portable air conditioners even though it still had an overall 3.6 rating, but I decided to give it a try. Having tested it out, I gotta say it actually works better than expected and I think some of the negative reviews have had issues for easily avoidable reasons. 1) This is not made to cool an entire room. That's not the point of it. This is for someone who wants to cool down their bed while they're sleeping or set it on their desk to cool down while they're working or maybe place in a corner of the kitchen while cooking. Basically, it's for when you're spending a lot of time in roughly the same spot and don't necessarily need to cool down your entire house. 2) it doesn't work wonders for the first 20 minutes or so. The water needs to soak through the filter cartridge because the water evaporating in a (ideally) dry climate is the science behind cooling the air. Until that happens it's basically just a little box fan. I get the impression some reviewers tested it out for 5 minutes, concluded it doesn't work, and wrote their review. Give it at least 20 minutes and you should definitely notice that it's pushing out air a good 8-10ish degrees cooler than the room temp is. 3) because this relies on water evaporating, it works better in drier climates. If you're in California, Arizona, New Mexico, etc this will work great. If you're in a humid place like Florida, you should frankly leave. 4) Based on what some have mentioned in terms of its air pushing capabilities, it seems like they maybe don't realize there are multiple settings. At its lowest setting I would say they're right: you basically need to have it within 12 inches of you to even notice it's on. However it has 4 settings that you cycle through by pushing the button on top (and there are no other buttons, it's pretty fool-proof). I think the 2nd setting is probably what most people would use while sitting it on their desk or beside their bed (higher settings might actually make you cold at that proximity). At its highest setting it's a bit noisy (like a PC fan at full speed), but I think it would actually be sufficient to cool a *small* bedroom at that level. If you have something like a 10×10 space or smaller and you don't have high ceilings, this might actually work for cooling the entire room at its highest setting. In a larger space, however, just remember this is made to cool you down while having it a few feet from you, not on the opposite end of where ever you are. I just did a little test and you can feel a cool breeze from 8 feet away at its highest setting. Beyond that you probably won't notice much effect. Also, I didn't notice this when I bought it, but it plugs in using a USB cord so you can power it with your computer or plug it into a power bank and take it on the go. It also only uses 7.5 watts which is literally 3,492.5 watts fewer than the average Central air system. That's not a joke or a typo. On a related note, I've seen some claim the price ($79 as of writing) is a bit steep, but consider that for anyone who works from home or stays in the same area for large parts of the day, this will allow you to kick the thermostat up a few degrees without sweating through your shirt, and then you'll save pretty substantially on each electric bill. It can pay for itself in one billing cycle if you let it, and after that it's actually costing you money not to have one. Overall, I'm perfectly satisfied with this purchase and it actually performs better than reviews had led me to believe. Just remember it's made to cool a roughly 10×10 area or smaller, not your entire estate. If you're ok with that, you'll love it.

Provides localized cooling for hot spots!
Evapolar Portable Mini Evaporative Air Cooler for Desk and Camping - Swamp Cooler - Evachill, Blue This little evaporative cooler does an OK job of cooling a small area. The unit will take a small area down a few degrees to provide some comfort on a hot day. This cooler is not large enough to and should not be expected to cool down an entire room. It has, however, earned a place in my lineup as a micro-cooler for hot spots. I like the modern design, multi-speeds, the lighted sides that show the water level, the fairly large capacity water reservoir, and the replaceable cooling cartridge. It runs a for a couple of hours per fill up. This cooler would be great for an office desk, camping, or in a car for single person use. It runs off a USB cord and comes with a 110 USB plug. Recommended for niche uses!

Cumbersome cannot add ice. Has cardboard filter you cannot clean.
This came looking used. Had scuff marks and a crumpled filter. The filter cover that said “remove before use” was in tact so I know that the product was not used but is designed this way. It requires you to move three different pieces to get to the small water hole which also needs a tiny cup inserted to fill it. You cannot put ice in it and the blue light on the entire side of the product does not turn off. Neither does the bright light that shows it is on. It goes together in a way that requires fumbling and does not appear to snap shut seamlessly unless I have not had enough college to accomplish this.

Not for cooling a room, it is for cooling YOU.
Anyone who is expecting a fan of any kind to cool an entire room has unrealistic expectations. Cooling a very small room will require either a window unit or conventional AC system and heat from that unit will need to be released through a vent to the outside of the home. This does exactly what it says. My home has decent AC, but for some reason, my office cannot improve 80+ degree temps in that portion of the house. I put this next to my rising desk on a projector stand to adjust height easily. I plugged it into a power bank. I measured the temperature using an infrared temp gun. It is pumping out 64-67. On med high, I am feeling fine. Using iced water does help. I have to turn it off sometimes as I get too cold. Does it cool the room? No, of course not. Does it cool me? Yes it does! I bought many desk fans and nothing comes close to this. It should be 1-2 feet from you. It will keep you cool while consuming very little energy.

Expensive Desk Fan But Not An Air Conditioner.
This Evapolar Portable Mini Air Cooler is a decent personal cooling device, but it is important to clarify that it is not a true air conditioner. It is not designed to cool a room; it only provides relief if you are sitting very close to the unit with the air blowing directly on you. The setup process was straightforward and took about 15 minutes. While I cannot speak to the air-quality improvement, I used spring water in the tank. The build quality feels solid and durable, and the aesthetic LED lights on the side are a nice touch. However, I have a few significant concerns. First, labeling this as an "air conditioner" is misleading; it is essentially an expensive desk fan. Second, the airflow is surprisingly weak for its size. Finally, the use of a USB Type-A power connection rather than USB-C makes me question the unit’s design age. While it functions as intended for close-range cooling, I find the price point difficult to justify given its limitations.

Works for a hot computer room!
I have a small home office packed with computers, which makes the room significantly warmer than the rest of the house. The central AC just couldn't keep up. This small evaporative cooler has made a difference. I placed it near my desk to circulate cool air around my setup, and it lowers the temperature in the room nicely. I recommend it if you have a spot in your home that needs extra spot-cooling!

really effective in keeping me cool
Great product, was really effective in keeping me cool working at my desk at home. Just note, it is really small won't cool a room or anything, but when you point it on you works well. Only annoying thing was I the light is always on, so I couldn't use it at night as the light was too bright to sleep with. Still worth the 5 stars!

disappointed..
I am very disappointed with this product. It was not cheap, and I expected it to last much longer than a few days. When I first received it, it worked very well. It was nice, cool, and performed exactly as expected. However, after only 4 days of use, the power stopped working and the fans completely stopped working as well. The product is now unusable. I have tried turning it on again, but there is no power and the fans do not run anymore. Considering how quickly it failed, I believe the item is defective. I would like a replacement or a full refund. This is very disappointing because it was working perfectly at first and then suddenly stopped working after only a few days.

Perfect for Remote Work on Hot Days
The hot days have started here in Spain, and since I work remotely from my home office, it was very important for me to keep my workspace comfortable. I found this device and was really curious to see what it could do. I ordered it, and it was delivered to my home about a week later. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I filled the system with water and tested several different modes. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. The device does exactly what I expected it to do. I set the airflow to maximum, and it provides a pleasant stream of cool air. It is not extremely cold, but it is more than enough to help me work comfortably at my desk. I would definitely recommend it, especially to anyone who works remotely.
