The kit is good and arrived promptly, unfortunately the could were a different size to the tap. Thankfully we had some of the correct coils so still used it. Not sure how long it would last for and heavy work.

well you get what you pay for honestly... coil went in no issue then bolt snapped halfway into the helicoil so now im stuck with a car with a helicoil that has hot a snapped bolt inside...

I've repaired two sets of threads in car suspension components with this kit (great designs, BMW) and the tool has done the job and done it well. If I were a pro and planned on using this over and over, I'd probably buy the name-brand tool. But for a tool that I'll use twice and will probably gather dust and never be used again, it did the job. Plus the cost of this is less than either buying a name brand tool or paying someone to do it for you. A few notes: -This is not a particularly sharp drill bit, nor is it made of high quality steel. Go slow, oil it, keep it cool. You can't drill metal like you drill wood. I can see how it's one-and-done if you overheat it. -In fact, that's probably good advice for all the components of this kit. Go slow. -You need a 1/2" drill. This is an oversized 12mm bit, you wouldn't expect it to come in a 3/8" size. Overall, expect adequate performance for occasional use at a reasonable price point. Which is it exactly its intended use.

So I stupidly ignored the torque specs on my motorcycle drain plug the last time I changed the oil. Warning: don't do that. When I pulled the drain plug to change it again, the threads came out with the plug. After my outburst of swearing subsided, I bought this little kit to retap the drain plug hole. It works exactly as advertised. You will need to buy cutting oil and a tap handle, as neither are included. But once you have them, the drill and tap process works just as it should and the repair coil threads in perfectly. The kit includes a punch to snap out the center tab in the repair coil, and comes with several (I think maybe six?) repair coils of the advertised size. The kit is well made and easy to use.
