Leading ribbonwork designer, Helen Gibb?s love of antique handwork transpires in another sumptuous book of ribbon delights. This eye appealing treasure, blooming with more beautiful bouquets?to make or savor? expands on classic techniques for manipulating and stitching ribbon. Blending directions for fashioning ribbonwork pieces of today with those of centuries past, Ribbonwork includes illustrated instructions for starting and ending stitches; single, double, triple, and figure 8 loop bows; flower and flower center knots; fan shape pleats; center, edge, and zigzag gatherings; blossoms, rosette/filler, pansy, and violet flowers; dipped, rolled, and pinched petals; stamens, stemming, and wrapping; prairie, boat, and curved leaves; and more. Review: A wonderfully illustrated, completely understandable, tutorial. - I am completely in love with this book! I have learned to make the most beautiful resemblance of natures perfect jewell, the flower, from a simple silk ribbon. Some of these perfect little creations look so lifelike it just makes you smile! The author not only provides complete step by step instructions for each bud, leaf, or flower, but pictures of each, as well as some simple and elegant projects to get you started. If you think you may enjoy this craft of old, this is the book for you. The author does encourage us to choose high quality ribbons for your projects, and this I find to be the best advice in my experience so far. Silk ribbons are suggested for many of the flowers. Silks are pricey so shop around for the best price and ask for samples when available. The only negative about this book is the lack of resource suggestions other than the authors own webstore. There are many trim and ribbon stores on the internet that can be located with your favorite search engine. Check the yellow pages to see if you have a trim and fabric store in your own neighborhood as well. Enjoy! Review: Stunning Ribbonwork - As a collector of books on needlework, ribbon embroidery and ribbonwork(including several by Helen Gibb), I first look at the projects in photographs. If they appeal to me for inspiration and offer a level of sophistication coupled with great color, quality of media used and good composition, I buy and value the book. Helen's book is a good example of the above. Several of her projects are roses in vases and indeed they are stunning. The combinations of color leap out at me. I am especially a pushover for pink and green combinations and the folded cabochon rose technique, but the one that was most eyecatching was her "Victorian era color scheme" on page 197. Beautiful indeed! As there are many incredible techniques utilizing ribbons, I must also note that this book is not for the ribbon "embroiderer" per se as Helen's flowers are not formed by embroidery but almost 3 dimensionally raised and "planted" on the surface. As a ribbon afficionado though, I like to combine different techniques in my projects. This book also has good pictorial instruction and directions along with needed supplies so I would altogether recommend this book highly.

Wow! Love this book!!
I bought this book as a gift for my sister, and it is hard to give away! I am going to be buying one for myself as well, as this is an easy to follow, comprehensive book. The instructions are clear, even for someone with brainfog days like me. Each design builds on the last, and the ideas for putting it all together are useful, beautiful projects. If I had known that creating such beautiful ribbon work was this easy, I would have started a long time ago. Kudos on the spiral binding- it is so helpful to be able to lay the book flat next to you as you work!

An exquisite craft
I liked this book, I downloaded onto Kindle, but I think I will buy it as a paper copy. It is my intent to learn this craft. It is awkward on Kindle. I thought this particular book seemed to be the one best suited for me to learn from. This is why I chose it over the other books on the subject that were offered. I still believe that to be the case. I would however go with the printed version. Athough less expensive, Kindle just doesn't do it justice for this type of craft manual.

great book
There are so few ribbon embroidery books that I have seen so was glad to find this one. I'm still a novice with ribbon embroidery, and with all my other projects I haven't had much of a chance to do ribbon embroidery, but I refer to this book because she has so many beautiful designs and inspirations. She shows step by step instructions.

Ribbonwork the complete guide.
This is a really beautiful book. The illustrations are gorgeous and it would be worth buying the book just to look through as a source of inspiration - a real 'must have'. As a complete ribbonwork novice I found the instructions clear and easy to follow and because the book is spiral bound, it is easy to keep it open when working on the various projects. I am now completely hooked on this craft and since buying the book have made and lavishly decorated two evening bags and am working on a ribbonwork choker. The down side is I have spent a fortune on ribbons - Oh! the guilt!.....

broderie
Les explications sont claires et tout à fait réalisables. Les images sont superbes, la broderie au ruban anglaise est assez différente dans sa conception. Elle est attachée à la création d'un motif qui sera repositionné sur un autre tissu.

Simply the best!
This is probabl one of the best books on ribbon work out there. On about 250 pages Helen Gibb introduces breathtakingly beautiful creations with lots of detailed photographs and step-by-step instructions. Also, you don't need to stock on tons of expensive silk ribbons, Gibb uses "a variety of ribbons in different styles, textures, colors, and widths to make flowers and leaves." No one makes roses the way Helen Gibbs does - they are so real and exquisite! I have 3 other silk ribbon embroidery books, but this book from Gibbs outshines them all. This book is worth every penny of the sales price!
