2 Buttons Replacement Key Fob Case Shell fit for Porsche 911 Cayman Boxster Carrera GT Keyless Remote Key Fob Cover

Here is why it gets 5 stars in my book... It comes exactly as described, and does not include the Porsche crest on the back side of the fob. I knew this going in, not a problem, but i forgot to order the crest and was feeling nit picky when I went to swap over. I didn't want to tear up the old key casing until I had the crest for the new fob backing. At the same time I was tired of one of the buttons on the opposite side falling off the fob with the old key... Long story short, I swapped the button facing side and rubber button pad onto the back half of the old fob, essentially using the back half of the old key and the front half of the new one. Snapped together just like the factory and worked great. It looks and feels sturdier than the original, but the dimensions and internals are absolutely identical. If it weren't for the price tag, you'd never know this wasn't a factory key shell. If there was a 6th star for a review, this would have gotten it. Great product and exactly as advertised.

I bought two of these to replace the original set of keys for my '05 Porsche 911, and can't be any happier with the change. Both of my keys had cracked and one occasionally separated to spill out its guts in the parking lot. I was skeptical but the quality of the new units is superb and feels much better in my hand, with a studier and more attractive matte key fob. It took me about 30-40 minutes to change the internal parts out to the new unit, but I was quicker on the second one. By far the hardest part is removing the transponder in the original key, which as others noted is glued in. My method was to use a box cutter to cut out the narrow sides of the transponder, then score and carefully wedge away the plastic on the longer sides of the transponder. At first I was very carefully and light on my cutting, but realized quickly that I needed to be more forceful to cut away the surrounding plastic walls (where the transponder sits inside). Needle nose pliers help with the removing the battery contacts too. I was happy to find a new Porsche decal with adhesive backing in the unit as well to place on the key. You can either cut the key that comes with the new unit or simply transplant the original key to the new fob, which is what I did and was very easy (just keep an eye not to lose the spring that holds it in). I also kept and used the old silicone casing around the circuit board because it had a little lip that held the circuit board in, which the new silicone casing did not. Overall, it's remarkable value in terms of quality for less than $20 and less than an hour of your time per key.

Better than going to the dealer to replace the cover when the internals all still work well.

My main button on my 997.2 key fell off and I had no idea where - probably didn't matter because if it falls off, it's likely broken. So I ordered this to replace it and it worked perfectly. I didn't have to transfer the internals, so I have no idea how easy that transponder would be to deal with but the top cover with the buttons fit perfectly onto the original key. This is a really good quality key case - looks identical to the original and is just as nice. Also, take note: the Porsche crest is not on the backside of the case, but is included inside the case and apparently has adhesive on the back so that it can be attached into the recessed area on the case. I'm saving all that incase I need it later. Need to repair your 99.2 key - don't think twice, just order this and save a tone of money compared to Porsche.

My key decided to toss off the lock/unlock button. I couldn't find it so I couldn't reinstall it. Choices were then a $400 replacement key from Porsche, or replacing the key shell on my existing key. This is the key shell replacement. Works fine once assembled. It uses parts from the old key (the alarm system circuit board, the transponder ship from the old key, and the battery electrical contacts.) My only gripe was having to move the electrical contacts from the old key to the new key. This was a very fiddly process - with the chance of one of the contact going flying never to be seen again. Happily, I did get the stuff moved from the old key shell to the new key shell - and it works just fine, but I would recommend only younger people with great dexterity try doing this. I don't recommend it for seniors who may have shaky hands and not wonderful vision. You will need some sort of magnifying device to do the job - as I mentioned the electronic connections are really a bit fiddly.

It was not an easy project to transfer all of the inner workings of the old key to the replacement key fob cover. The 1st issue I encountered was that the battery terminals didn't fit snugly in the replacement fob so I had to super glue the positive terminal in place. The 2nd issue is that the transponder was glued in place on (all sides except the top) in the original fob and had to be cut out carefully, very time consuming. The 3rd issue was I couldn't get the battery to seat properly so it stayed in place. Final issue was getting all the buttons to work once it was assembled. It took a few attempts of reopening the fob case and repositioning the rubber pc board holder before I got all buttons to work properly. On the positive side. I was able to salvage the Porsche emblem from the old fob case and glue it on the replacement. The new unit is solid, a bit heavier than the original but it hopefully outlast the original unit which was surprisingly as fragile as it was. Finally the unit only cost $18 which is so much cheaper than buying a replacement fob that needs programming.

I am not one to write lots of reviews but I wanted potential buyers to know this is a great product, much sturdier and better looking than the OEM key from my 2005 Porsche Boxster. HOWEVER, it can be a bit difficult to move the old key electronics and place them into this shell. In particular, the battery contacts and the transponder from the original key need to be taken out and put in the new shell. This process requires cutting up the old key to get the glued in transponder out in order to place it in the new key fob. Simply look for a youtube video on swapping out Porsche key fob electronics to see how to do it. Once done, the key is better than the original!

Design like original, fits well. Quality of product is good.
