This is a love or hate item by some of the other reviews that didn't like to sharpen them. I like them very much, they have good hoops and the handles feel tight and are ready for mallet driving. I don't drive mine hard and use them as pearing work.You will need to sharpen them and that can be done with a slip stone and a standard flat stone. I use diamond DMT stones, so this is not a big deal to get a keen edge in short order.For the price, this is a great set of chisels.

I'm fairly new at woodcarving so I got these for around $25 and they don't seem too bad. You will likely need to sharpen some of them better (but really, if you want to do woodcarving as a hobby you'll need to sharpen your tools anyway). I haven't used them much yet, but they seem pretty strong and some of them seem easy to sharpen. I don't think they are worth the full price of $56, but they might have been if they were perfectly sharpened. Also, I think some of them are meant for wood-turning, but I don't have a lathe so I can't really say how well those ones work.

After 1st use ,of one the chisels...handle came loose. Not well made, but very sharp. I can manage .

I ordered these tools a long time ago and was looking to use them and pick up the hobby of woodcarving. I used them on balsa wood but past that I had the difficulty of using them on base wood which was disappointing. Perhaps it was just technique that I needed to learn? Oh well- perhaps another time.

This carving set looks very nice but came with a very cheap plastic case. This wasn't a huge deal because I already had a case I wanted to use anyway. These chisels are not top of the line, obviously because of the price, but they get the job done, and for the novice carver I really don't need anything more.

I was pleasently surprised on how sharp and how well they worked. They are not heavy duty, worked with finess they work great. For the price the carving tools rock!!!!!!! I sharpened them a little before I used them with a metal file by hand as I would so with any chisel.Thanks!

This chisel set is great for anyone that wants to do some wood carving. After sharpening these quikly with a sharpinging stone they were ready for use. They work great with just pushing or using a rubber mallet, never use a metal hammer because it will break the wooden handles. These tools are short which makes them great for small carvings because there's a lot of control over where the blade goes. I reccomend these to anyone who wants to try carving and have a lot of tools to try out.

I was disappointed in the quality of this product. The tools arrived very dull, and it took a lot of effort to get them sharp. If you have an automatic sharpening system then I guess this wouldn't be such a big problem, but hand-sharpening these guys takes hours upon hours. They seem solid enough otherwise. A good buy considering the price, though, and I'd recommend them if this is all you can afford.
