Practical Binary Analysis: Build Your Own Linux Tools for Binary Instrumentation, Analysis, and Disassembly

Only on chapter 5 in my class, but so far I do like the book. I have a lot to learn. The VM that you use is very helpful.

Programming language books - good. Some stack based books - good. Book about Internals of binaries and getting hands dirty with it - awesome. I cannot (don't want) stop and skip any page of useful information concentrated in this book. Mostly I read books quickly to just get common understanding and jump to tinkering. But not with this book, I discovered things that I never was thinking about. If there would be ability to set 10 or 100 stars - I would easily give to this book.

Taught me a lot great projects

This book is phenomenal. What I've learned from this book is so much more valuable than what I would get from taking college courses on this subject for thousands and thousands of dollars. The writer is extremely knowledgable. He's a great writer. It was very hard for me to find this information elsewhere in a well thought out, organized fashion. There are even capture the flag exercises to drill the points home. The return on investment from reading this was probably greater than any book I've purchased.

I have only gone half way through, but what I liked most was that it jumps right into details. Its very organized content wise and easy to follow along with the examples. There's a vm you can download to follow along which is a huge help.

Covers all major binary analysis topics, from basic to advanced, with clear illustrations and examples for each topic. Includes overview of the ELF and PE binary formats and an x86 crash course to help the beginning binary analyst get up to speed.

Overall i like the book. has enough content to actualy get in depth but easy enough read to not get totally lost or fall asleep. Useful for walking through a bit above basic binary analysis with some medium/high content sprinkled in.

This book is the perfect find for anyone wanting to get into binary analysis that really just needs a methodical and well written text with accompanying exercises to mess around with. Awesome job on this one. It's pretty tough but take your time if you're just starting out and really digest what he's telling you.

Ottimo libro per chi si interessa di cose come reverse engineering, malware analysis o semplicemente CTF. Si rivolge quasi esclusivamente al formato elf/linux a parte un breve capitolo introduttivo al formato PE ma gli stessi concetti si possono applicare al mondo windows/mac. Diventerà sicuramente un classico, da avere assolutamente.

Much better than many books out there for one good reason. It comes with exercises, and good ones too. You can't assimilate such difficult knowledge if you don't practice. It makes you download a VM with all the exercises from the book neatly prepared for you to experiment with. The author also knows what he's talking about. Very little rambling with straight to the point information. The knowledge you extract from this book feels like you are uncovering trade secrets only a handful of people know of.

This book is increible. For such a dry topic, it is very easy to read and follow. Lot's of insights and depth while keeping the reader engaged.
