Are they good for cutting polymer clay?

Hardened? I'm not sure. Unbaked definitely. Cuts hard plastics, soft wood (shaves pine, spruce etc), I mainly use it on packagaing and plastic cable ties and the like. Great craft knives, sharp, and hold an edge. The one flaw is you can loose/blunt the very tip if you jab into something that is too firm, but even then they still work fine on the rest of the blade.

Will they cut carpet?

No these are too flimsy for that. You need a Stanley knife for carpet cutting.

Will they cut hair (wound around carpet sweeper axles)

Depends on access to the area; if you can get the blade in it will most certainly cut the hair. Regards.

Will this knife cut balsa wood for model making?

They are not very strong so I would doubt they would cut balsa wood. They could almost be called disposable. I use mine for lightweight crafting like cutting paper. I find them useful but do need to replace them frequently
