Can I use it safely indoors?

We use ours in our cabin so yea, I believe it it safe for indoor use. It is only one tea light that is burning, probably less than what most people burn in there homes.

What brand tea lights work well? I am having problems as I can only get very cheap ones locally that only last about two hours. Has anyone found a go.

I haven’t used my lantern in a while but I was using cheap tea candles from Target and IKEA and I thought they worked fine. Two hours doesn’t sound too bad. I do have a problem keeping the candle lit so I jury rigged a paper clip to hold the door slightly open to allow more air in.

when I put candle in and let it burn for 30-60 seconds before closing the door, there is this loud band as if something is expanding! Is it normal?

Yes it is normal. Do not leave the door open. Let the candle burn on the outside for a few minutes to get a good burn going.Then put it inside with the door shut. If the bang happens while the candle is burning after a while it is usually getting to hot. When it bangs, open the door, let it sit until the device bangs again, then it is ready to go. If you do not hear the second bang, when you close the door it will kill the candle. I think it is a built in safety device. Only happens once in a while and I have had my Caframo for at least 5 years now. Hope this helps.

how long do the led lights last?

Thank you for your question. As the JOI lamp requires the heat produced from the candle, it will last for as long as the candle is burning and we suggest a four hour burning tea light candle to be used. Once the candle goes out, you can put another in and keep going for as long as you require the lighting.
