This is a really great shelf, but because of some review saying it was weak in the middle, I measured my space to be 37 inches and therefore got the larger shelf, so there was as much overlap in the center of the shelf with the metal as possible. The directions are terrible so I made a video. You need a drill to pre-drill the holes and you need to know that the bolt comes off and slips into a little hole on. That’s how it tightens. Also, make sure when you measure it you measure it with it at its shortest distance at the tightening end so that when you tighten it, you can get it to the perfect tension. Anyway, I made a quick video for you. There’s no way this is coming down. It’s very strong but you have to do it right

I use this to create extra storage capacity in my cabinet. It holds up pizza pans and lids. It holds the weight well. It takes a bit to figure out the tension. But once I got it snugged up just right it hasnt fallen in the 3 years it has been up. It is against wood and stays well.

DO NOT BUY THIS!! The piece to turn the screw in the middle of the rod broke, the sticker holders for the rods peeled off my wall, and when tightening the screws, you make your own holes in the rod in turn destroying the rod with a bunch of holes if u mess up or just trying to adjust everything. I also had an issue where no matter how much measurement i did, it would not be straight and at the end of the rod where you’re supposed to tighten it, it just stops working! I couldn't tighten or loosen it! Everything about this has given me much more added stress, anger, and disappointment. I wish i could rate this 0 stars.

Cleaning up my closet and this helped clean up shoe storage in a shelf. Worked great! I did watch a video posted on reviews showing to pre drill. It is NOT NECESSARY to pre drill with self tapping screws that were sent in packaging. I do however think the company should have sent directions versus going to look for a review from buyer.

This expandable shelf is exactly what I needed. I wanted it for the far side of a closet to store some extra items and keep them off the floor. It’s simple to install and seems quite sturdy. The tension poles adjust well, and it feels like it isn't going to slip or go anywhere. It does come with these extra peel-off sticky things you could use for additional support, but I didn't find them necessary. I also like that you could put hangers on it if you wanted to or put the plastic sheet over the bars if you are concerned about tiny items falling in between them. In terms of aesthetics, you can tell it's an adjustable shelf. There is the white plastic part where the two sets of bars connect, and those white knobs to adjust it are quite visible. It’s not seamless like most normal shelves are. However, for someone like me who is not particularly good at installing things with drills and such, especially in tight spaces, this is great. And seeing that it is at the far end of the inside of a closet, it doesn't really matter. I’ll take function and ease of installation over form.
