When Jack Klugman played Oscar Madison in televisions "The Odd Couple," it seemed no role could better suit himuntil he stepped into the shoes of Dr. Quincy, the stubborn, crusading medical examiner in the trailblazing series (1976-1983) that spawned the medical investigation genre and earned Klugman four Emmy nominations. Immortalized for posterity is this collectors set of the shows first two seasons on three two-sided discs containing 16 episodes (four from Season One; 12 from Season Two). Beginning with the first installment, "Go Fight City Hall--To the Death," the series socially conscious, quick-paced, and mostly believable storylines are an engaging blend of mystery, sleuthing, sarcasm, and romance stirred together into an action-packed drama. Each episode, such as the award-winning show, "The Thigh Bones Connected to the Knee Bone," probes contemporary issues and promotes justice while maintaining a healthy dose of humor. A strong supporting cast includes Robert Ito (as Quincys loyal lab assistant, Sam) and John S. Ragin (as skeptical boss, Dr. Asten). Jamie Lee Curtis makes a cameo appearance in "Visitors in Paradise," while additional celebrity guests include Buddy Hackett, Donna Mills, Kim Cattrall, and June Lockhart. The picture and sound quality are solid and each story begins with a short onscreen synopsis and original airdate. The only deficit in an otherwise stellar effort is the noticeable lack of bonus material such as vintage interviews, a making-of featurette, or a well-deserved tribute to Klugman. (Ages 12 and older) --Lynn Gibson Quincy, M.E., the trail-blazing series that created the medical investigation genre, comes home to DVD for the first time ever in this gripping 3-disc set of Seasons One and Two! Television icon Jack Klugman is the crusading and headstrong medical examiner Dr. Quincy, the distinguished role that earned him 4 Emmy nominations. Aided by his loyal lab assistant Sam Fujiyama (Robert Ito), Quincy's not afraid to stand up for his convictions, and he'll battle anyone who stands in his way: his skeptical boss Dr. Asten (John S. Ragin), City Hall, and even sometimes his own friends and mentors. On the case with Quincy are celebrated guest stars such as Buddy Hackett, Donna Mills, Kim Cattrall, June Lockhart and Jamie Lee Curtis. Investigate all 16 episodes of Seasons One and Two, and watch as Quincy, M.E. probes into contemporary issues and makes a passionate stand for justice. Review: Good entertainment! - I enjoy being able to watch the videos anytime particular on weekends and off days. Great quality! Review: Includes the early TV Movies! - A Classic TV series... very enjoyable. The set features the early Quincy broadcasts that were the 'made for TV movies' of the week on NBC (in rotation with McCloud, Columbo and McMillan & Wife). It was enjoyable to watch the original episode with the fainting police officers (the clip that would later be used in the intro to the show) and to see how the relationships between Quincy, Capt. Monahan and Dr. Asten evolved over time.

Great DVD to add to your collection - QUINCY is definitely one to watch
This series is about a county medical examiner who investigates clues for what appear to be normal deaths. I watched this series long ago and I'm thrilled to add the seasons to my collection. It's clean, wholesome TV at it's finest. No sex, violence or gore. Just good honest, hardworking professional people who don't always take what looks to be something it's not. The actors are great and portray their roles in perfect harmony especially Sam and of course Quincy who at times butt heads but in the end we all learn not to trust our first instincts in every situation.

Good Series!
If you're reading this you probably already know it, but Jack Klugman was great as Dr. Quincy. I also really like the Sam character. Astin can be trying at times - too much of a bureaucrat, but in the end he usually comes through for his subordinates. In my humble opinion the seasons before Quincy gets married again are the strongest. The series can get a little too preachy at times, but overall it's good television - way better than most of today's garbage. Give it a try!

Enjoyable 70's Television
Sure, a couple of the plots are a bit farfetched. An example is the episode where Quincy reconstructs a full human image of a person from one bone. Even though it seems ridiculous, the fun is in the ride. It is entertaining nonetheless. Most of the episodes are quite good, and emphasize the importance of science in the quest for truth. Evidence reigns supreme! Jack Klugman's acting is always good. Quincy is always sincere. He is always consumed with justice for the victim. Who wouldn't like a guy like that? My favorite episode guest stars the late, great William Windom! He was a terrific actor who starred in many TV shows that I watched growing up. He could play the good guy, or the villain. In his guest starring role in Quincy, he is a sleazy, heavy-handed creep. His acting is superb! There is a part of his performance that really makes the viewer think he is undergoing a physical trauma. I will leave it at that. He really was a superb actor! In short, if you enjoyed TV shows during the seventies, I think you might enjoy this trip down memory lane.

Excellent. This is NOT a CSI show.
I see a lot of comparisons to CSI, but let's face it - Quincy is not that. CSI is an entertaining show, but it's filled with two-dimensional men with bulging muscles, women with low-cut blouses, and labs that are lit with dramatic lighting & lots of pretty decorations. When was the last time you walked into a lab that looks like that?!?!? In a word, CSI is T&A and pretty sets - Shallow. Quincy is all heart. Quincy works in a boring, sterile, white-colored laboratory that is dull in appearance, but Jack Klugman pours his heart into the character and makes the show exciting. As Quincy says to a bunch of college students, "You may not have any interest in forensics, but I do, and I am passionate about my work. If you have no interest in this class, leave now so I can go back to doing what I love." Quincy loves solving the mystery, loves overcoming obstacles, and loves catching the bad guy. Passion. Dedication. Morality. That's what sets Quincy above the CSI clones and made it one of the most successful series on television (8 years worth of episodes). Don't mistake this for CSI - Quincy is better than that.

You'd never think this guy was Oscar Madison---
I'm a Jack Klugman fan! I own the complete Odd Couple series on DVD as it indeed was THE best sitcom ever. For someone who has not seen a Quincy episode, you're missing Mr. Klugman at his finest. This is not Oscar Madison playing a coroner. No typecasting here! This series set the stage for shows like Diagnosis Murder and even Murder, She Wrote. The DVD quality is very good in both the sound and video areas. They are double sided though so you have to look closely at the disc to see which one you're looking at. My one negative though is that I jumped so quickly at buying this that I didn't realize the entire series (all seasons) is available in one package. If you're a fan already, look for that instead of just this season 1 & 2 package.
