Despite a rainy Sunday, I tried out my new grafting knife today in the yard after it arrived on the porch. I have many of the other Truly Garden tools and find that the grafting knife is similar - good quality, aesthetically pleasing (why is it that gardeners usually care about this?), and functional. I've always had a Victorinox budding and grafting knife but now that I have a 10 yr old helping me out, I needed a locking blade. It is sharp out of the box for the first few cuts, though afterwards I did a bit of fine honing because I'm a bit picky about my knives. Functional, beautiful, affordable. Truly Garden did it again.

It was quikly sent it to me! I just used it once! The only flaw when you fold the knife it dosent exactly seat back in the handle cover ! But is not a big deal at all! Good choice for what you pay!!!

Listed as a "Right-handed" single beveled knife. In fact it is a DOUBLE beveled knife - that is, beveled on both sides; Thus it is NOT a "right handed knife". To get a really straight cut in grafting, one should use a single beveled knife. If you look closely at the knife's sharp edge (enlarge the photo) , you can see that it is NOT straight, but has slight curves in the cutting edge. A knife's cutting edge should be perfectly straight. I did not use the knife, since it was not what I ordered, and immediately returned it. If you want a "right-handed" SINGLE beveled knife, do not buy this one.

The knife has a double bevel making grafting cuts more difficult. It works relatively well for cleft grafts or bark grafts but making a chip-bud graft was very difficult. Fits nicely in the hand, sharp from the package. Will use it as a general gardening pocket knife but will have to purchase another grafting knife with a single edge. The locking blade is the main reason for keeping this knife but the double bevel is a big minus.

It worked well for what it was intended to do!
