Does it come from steel sheep

Actually, it comes from the Steel Mills in Yorkshire England. In as sense, the "steel sheep" response is correct, it's SO cold on the Yorkshire Downs, where the sheep are sent to pasture, that their wool hardens and "freezes" into steel.

I am looking for a steel wool that will rust quickly when placed in vinegar (weathering new wood). Is this actually steel or synthetic?

is this product good for washing pots and pans

It's very fine. I use it to clean some nice copper pieces I own. I don't think it would be good for more than one or two pot scrubbings. It's very easy to pull apart.
