Great, quality camera at a very low price!
I got the Foscam R4 because I love the Foscam R2 that I purchased before. The R4 has a few new upgrades, but is just as super easy to set up as the R2. Nothing easier than scanning a sticker and you are set up. I like the ability to zoom in and the enhanced resolution for the camera is nice for a detailed look. The IR feature was enhanced as well which helps at night since my house is completely dark. Just like the R2, the R4 can do the cloud storage and Micro SD card. Nothing really new about that, but the fact that they didn't change anything is great since the SD card is easy to install and to pull any footage out that you may need. The Foscam app allowed me to set the tolerance level for motion and sound alarms which is nice too as I don't want notifications for every single noise or movement that goes on (I have three dogs). I now have two of these Foscams at my house and it gives me a sense of security knowing I can monitor my house without being there. The R4 is compact, easy to use, and very inexpensive. I honestly can't believe the great quality considering how little it costs. I would recommend the R4 Foscam for anyone who would like an easy to set up, QUALITY, camera for their home or office.

Great security camera
I'll admit, it took a bit of time for me to get everything working, but now that I did I really like this security camera. In terms of the effort it took, I found it pretty straightforward to get the camera itself working with the phone app. Just note that you will need to hook it up to an ethernet connection in order to get the wifi to work, but that was also true of my previous camera. The difficulty I had setting it up was for accessing and controlling the camera from my computer, and most of that difficulty was due to not knowing which username to use. In terms of the camera itself, I really like the quality of the video and how good a job the camera does capturing movements only caused by people. Right now I only have a 28 GB micro SD card for storage, and despite having the camera for about a week, I still have 27 GB left on my card. One thing which is very impressive is the quality of the night videos. Note that I don't use night mode. I use normal mode. In my case I keep the outdoor porch lights on during the night, and that's enough to give a good picture at night. Also, I found customer support to be excellent. I emailed them about the problem I was having setting up the computer app, and they got back to me the next day, which was a Saturday. Overall, I recommend this camera.

Works well, motion detection touchy, can't get SD card working
I purchased this camera for a friend of mine to use in her business. The instructions were easy to follow for installation and we set the app up on my phone. Unfortunately, I can't get the camera to read the micro SD card that I also purchased to go with it but that could be something did with the formatting. So really the only way we have to capture images is if I am watching real time and hit the record button or take still shots. I did enroll in the free limited cloud service, but that only saves recordings for 8 hours, so if something happens in the middle of the night and you don't review the camera right away in the morning, it is wiped out. Also, with the free service, you cannot download the video, you can only take still images from the recordings. The picture quality is good. The night vision quality is great. The motion detection is a bit touchy, even when the detection area is limited and set to medium sensitivity it still picks up car head lights from the streets and alerts me to "human movement." Overall, though, we are satisfied with this camera as it alerted us to an intruder in the business the weekend after Christmas and we were able to record the person and take images to provide evidence to police and other businesses in the town we live in. It was a good investment and I am glad that we have the security, even if it takes a little extra monitoring on our end.

Great picture and quality
Very easy to hookup and has a excellent picture. Very happy with this purchase. Work's great if you have to use a 5g router. This was the only reason i got it. Was to replace a older one that could not pair up to the new router. Update - 1/2021. The camera stopped working a few months back. Keep letting me know thee was a update needed. Never could get the update to take, always failed. The web sight was no help. wanted you do download to a zip file, etc then do a micro sd card, etc. UGH. finally figured out to hard wire it up to my router and then after it paired up used the app on my phone for the software update. BINGO it worked like it should. Magic

Disappointed
This system has some good qualities, but overall it fails to be viable. We bought 2 cameras and at first everything was great. For the first month there were no problems. Everything seemed to work as intended. The only disappointment was the volume if you were trying to listen. Sounds were barely discernable. Our problem started with trying to add mini sd cards to record. The process of formatting the cards was harder than it should have been, but I was successful. Still, the cameras would not record. I turned to the chat support which is awful. Long waits for someone to help followed by posting a bunch of articles to follow which included downloading a program on my pc, and ultimately required logging in to change settings to set to record only they required a password to the camera that doesn't exist.i tried contacting sorry again, but no response until much later. Now, one of the cameras is not responding. We are unable to access it. I've even plugged it directly into the router and out still won't connect. I attempted chat support and last time I checked they still had not responded and I requested help 5 hours ago. In the process of leaving a negative review I found a number to call for support. I reached someone who told me they would put new in touch with the manufacturer. I held... and held again, only to be told she couldn't reach anyone and she would call me back within 3 hours. That was nearly 5 hours ago and I'm to throw in the towel. For what it's worth, the picture quality is really good. Sound quality is terrible. Some of the features are pretty neat. The app is relatively easy to use when it works. However, none if that matters when the camera doesn't work.

Repeat purchaser, great products and support
This is my 5th foscam. (Only replaced one, as it was an older version, but still worked fine) Although this one is intended for "indoor' I have had one on my back porch under the eave for a couple of years with no issues. I can talk to my dogs and send them inside, or talk to whomever is out there. I have another inside, and a FI9928P over the driveway and garage. Very easy set up, and never loses signal. I much prefer the ability of PTZ and have 2 way audio instead of a boxed stationary camera security set up that I had looked at in the past. Picture quality is excellent, and I love the IR at night. I did contact Foscam for a couple questions, and Frank was super responsive, and got me squared away quickly for both the phone app and desktop program. Be mindful if you have 2.4 or 5ghz or blended wifi. Their newer cameras offer both, but not all do. If your modem is set to autoconnect devices, it may cause you difficulty with setup like I had until I figured it out. I highly recommend these products, and could not be more pleased with the customer service. Only wish my outdoor camera was available in black instead of "hey, look up here" white (which may be intentional for that purpose.)

Inexpensive feature-rich cameras with A1 support.
I have been a big fan of Foscam cameras for many years and own a variety of their pan/tilt, pan/tilt/zoom, and fixed cameras. One of the most attractive aspects beyond the rich set of features is that there is no necessity to maintain a subscription. Buy the camera, an SD Card if you want to save videos, and you can monitor the camera and recordings from anywhere using your cellphone or the Foscam VMS app. For all the features these cameras are robust and generally trouble-free once you have the WiFi to the more remote parts of your home established. And, the remote parts are likely where you will have the outdoor cameras. One of the bzillion configuration options available if you need it is to be able to adapt the bandwidth of video stream to suit the environment though. I like that a lot. I did have a couple of failures over the last 10-12 years (of maybe 16 cameras established for relatives and friends). One was a failed plug-top USB power supply after a nearby lightning strike interrupted power to my home and was easily replaced with an old phone charger; another was also after a power interruption and the camera would boot but would not send video. In that last case I reached out to Foscam support even though the camera was out of Warranty and they were just wonderful. Nora Chau got back to me within hours with useful suggestions and provided me with recovery firmware. That was ultimately unsuccessful but along the was she set up a Zoom with a support engineer and we worked through some diagnostics together. This for an out-of-warranty camera remember. That Foscam would invest so much effort on me tells me two things. 1. They stand behind their products and go the distance to make their customers happy. 2. The cameras must be reliable because they have time to deal with a single failure and want to understand what happened. Strongly recommended. Delighted with their support. Nora Chau went well beyond my expectations to represent Foscam in a very professional manner. - Frank

It's a good camera.
Pros: 1. Top on the list is the resolution, within this price range. It gives you a lot of details! 2. Record video in avi format. NOT .264. 3. Good security (maybe too tight). 4. Good motion detection and notification. Yes it works. 5. Sound detection works too. 6. One year free cloud service. 7. It takes very good pictures. 8. Can manage (copy, delete, download) files on the SD card via the web interface (yes, it's very useful!!!), so you don't need to take the SD card out of the camera to download all the files. Cons: 1. Top on my list is the microphone is not good enough, doesn't pick up enough audio on the recording. I have tried 2 units and they both are the same. 2. If you don't subscribe cloud service, the free cloud service doesn't let you download the recordings (then don't call it free ;-)) 3. The setup is not the easiest, requires a cable (vs. other cameras I have can use wifi to set it up). 4. Image distortion. Objects become fat in the middle of the screen (too much of it). 5. The Foscam phone app needs a redesign. Not easy to use. You will have to go to camera configuration to open SD card then play the recordings from there. 6. Can't format sd card in the app and the camera doesn't accept sd card which is not formatted in fat32, so you have to format it on a PC with third party tool, and in my case it didn't work on win 7 machine, I had to find a XP machine! 7. Can not manage the camera via browser unless you install the foscam plugin (it's pain in the neck). 8. Can't connect to the camera via more than one phone. You can share the camera but the 2nd camera can only view the video (can't pan and zoom), or control the camera, for up to 30 days. Then you have to re-share. 9. Power adapter cord is too short. 10. The cloud plug-in tried to install a root certificate on my windows machine, which I denied, so I can't connect to foscam cloud service on my PC. Overall a good camera but needs some improvements. If sound quality is not your concern then it is a good fit for high res video recordings. All the recording avi files can be easily played on a windows PC.

Software is a bit cluncky. Older models were better.
I first had the HD model of the same camera and liked it for the ability to upload to a custom FTP, taking storage into personal cloud. Got 4K version, and some things were buggy. Nevermind the fact that USB-C unplugs if you wiggle it a little. Clearly a bad connection somewhere. When initialized, the camera sometimes does not return to the home position. It'll be off vertically, often significantly. Software could take a lesson from Blink cameras, because the simplest functions like arming and disarming (putting to sleep mode) should be 2 clicks away. There should be ability to review internal footage without having to turn the camera on. In top of physical quality and features, the camera is top notch, but the software must've been written by monkeys.

Nothing like the older versions.
Very little control over the picture. There are no brightness/contrast or color control. Don't waste your money.
