The one mechanical problem is the four outboard mounting holes/standoffs are not needed for mounting and interfere, so I needed to use a hack saw to eliminate them. See the photo. The latching solenoid worked straight-away driven off the Pi GPIO ports and circuit comprising a level shifter and H bridge, which I built. Upon arrival one can test the solenoid with a 5 volt power supply by simply briefly touching the black and red wires. Optically the cut filter appeared to be doing its job since the image colors appeared to be quite normal when the filter is in.
