It is strong enough to hold a solid wood door in place, if needed. I only had two issues:1) There are no instructions (would have saved me some confusion if there was a simple instruction page)2) I am using the doorstop on a cheap, basic, hollow-core bathroom door. When the two pieces meet, they make a loud SMACK! sound. I found that sound to be annoying, so I bought a pack of circular felt pads (the kind you put under chair legs), removed about 3/4 of the felt from one and glued it to the button side of the doorstop. In fact, this will probably outlive your door. Alignment prior to drilling holes is crucial, so spend an extra few minutes marking before slapping the pieces in. Even if you don't get the holes perfect there is some room for error and it will still function properly. I do not reccoment using the cheap anchors they provided, the magnetic base will simply pull out of the wall (Screws and all) when you pull the door due to the fact that the magnet is very strong, and it also depends on how well the 2 pieces are aligned as to the strength of the magnetism. As long as the pieces are aligned properly and you use an alternate anchor from a hardware store you should be happy purchasing this item. It's important to line up the pieces accurately. I did that by installing the arm on the door, magnetically attaching the bumper to the arm, positioning the door in it's open position and tracing the correct position of the bumper on the wall. (I like to put the arm on the door rather than the wall because it doesn't interfere with cleaning the floor. Also, put masking tape on the approximate location of the bumper and trace on the tape - easy cleanup.)Both pieces came with their mounting plates tightly screwed into them. I stuck the tips of a needle-nose pliers into the screw holes on the mounting plates to unscrew them.
