Review: Wow! this is a great Dust Collector - I ordered this for my son for Christmas to add to his workshop to help manage dust being created from his planer, jointer and table-saw. He had been using a shopvac but that was not very efficient to manage the amount of dust his planer was making. We put the unit together the other day and I would highly recommend two people doing it as there are a couple of steps in the assembly process that would be very challenging to do by yourself. Overall it goes together very easily, took us about 1 hour and the instructions were very clear. Once we had it together we plug it in and turned it on and wow what a difference compared to the shop vac. Very good suction and the unit is actually much quieter than I expected, more of a humming type sound vs. the high pitch sound of the shop vac. The two inlets are nice as well. This unit is very heavy duty, the filter works great and the storage bags (4 included) are very thick so I think you will be able to reuse them if you wanted to. Jet really makes a great product here. I see it's advertised as a "vortex cone" but now sure if that means the same thing.** A: Not really. Most cyclones are part of a two-stage system. Air first comes in through a cyclone that separates out 95%+ of the particles. The air next goes through the vacuum motor and associated filter. In the Jet system, the air first comes in through the vacuum motor. Next it travels to the vortex cone which help direct particles and dust downward. Remaining air eventually travels up and out through the filter. **Q: what's the CFM rating?** A: The specifications state that the air flow rating for all models in the DC-1100VX series is 1100 CFX. The motor is rated 1.5 HP, 11A @ 115V I personally have the -CK model (canister filter kit) as I was looking for filtering down to the I micron level... this model is rated at 74% efficient at this size, 98% at 5 microns. The unit has met all my expectations and works exceptionally well with stationary tools having a 4" exhaust port. I have noticed no appreciable dust release when using the unit in conjunction with a Jet 22/44 oscillation drum sander. It is a bit more challenging with open tools, being necessary to place a collection hood in just the right location. I would recommend this unit without hesitation for shop applications that need a portable, efficient collector. **Q: The cannister gets clogged with fine dust so I give it a thorough cleaning with my shop vac. Can this filter be washed with water?** A: I would not recommend it. If you spin the filter handles as recommended you shouldn’t have to clean out the filter very often. Maybe once every other bag or so depending on what you are doing. **Q: Can you take off the dual 4" port and run a bigger main line?** A: In my experience as a custom cabinet maker I've noticed the cfm of the 2 4" ports together is about the same as (in my case with a shop fox) when you remove it and use a 6" port. Though covering one of the 4 inch ports while not as powerful as the 6 inch port it is stronger suction than than leaving both open. That being said. It's really 6 in one. Thanks. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice dust collector but one cheap improvement would make this better *by J***N on December 6, 2020* Overall this is a nice dust collector but the filter/bag unit has only three legs for support. It wobbles easily and I can see the support legs bending by moving the dust collector around the shop. Had Jet added metal ducting from the fan to the filter/bag, the wobble could be eliminated. I added three 5" duct elbows to replace the vinyl hose from the fan to the filter/bag and it is now much sturdier. If you make this mod, don't use sheet metal screws because the screw ends inside the ducting can accumulate wood particles and cause air friction, which will decrease CFM over time. Then you need to take it apart to clean. I just used HD metal duct tape to keep the elbows stiff and to hold them together and used the clamps to secure the elbow ends to each side of the fan and filter vortex. The 5" duct elbows need to be flared at one end and slightly crimped at the other to make a tight fit over the dust collector ports.
