One cup of corn will produce about one and a half cups of meal. With the addition of a half cup of dehydrated potato flakes plus the other usual ingredients that one and a half cups will produce a pan of gluten free cornbread. However to get the fineness needed for decent cornbread even with the potato flake cheat, one has to first grind the corn then regrind the coarser meal produced on the first pass. Expect the same two passes to grind decent rice flour. The second pass for wheat flour is easier than for rice. The rice semi-ground ground flour tends to stick together more above the feed screw, expect to stop numerous times to shake it down. But the wheat shakes down more easily. I ground 40 pounds (about 3/4 bushel) of corn this past week with the grinder attached to a model KP216M1 (600 Professional). Your Accolade 400 is a medium powered mixer and will easily handle this grinder. Please remember not run the mixer with grinder for longer than 20 minutes without giving the motor a rest to cool down. **Q: I want to use this with roasted almonds to make almond butter. My brother has a Champion that makes butter easily. Anyone done any roasted nuts?** A: I use my food processor to make almond or other nut butters. I toast the nuts then grind them in the food processor adding just a small amount of almond or walnut oil at the end to get the right consistency. It's much better than the "fresh-ground" at stores, because they use low grade/older nut stock, so it's not usually fresh tasting at all. Good luck! **Q: This mill can grind dry herbs and spices?** A: its' not recommended for herbs/spices but as long as they are fully dry and not oily (i.e. no rosemary) it will work. Pros: Affordable compared to stand alone mill. Small and easy to tuck away. Absolutely does the job and allows me to have fresh milled flour for all my baking needs. Cons: It is slow in comparison to a stand alone unit. It is LOUD. If you have sensory sensitive people in your home, just be aware. My kids have gotten used to it, but this guy is not discreet. Running the mill on your kitchenaide WILL heat up the gears on the mixer during the run. In a former life, I was a lab tech and keeping machines running and processes moving smoothly was my mission. So here are solutions for the cons: It’s slow = prepare for it, set aside approximately 10-30 min depending on how much you are milling. It’s loud = my kids have noise canceling headphones, I just tell them I have to mill and give them the option to wear them or not. I do not mill when they are in the middle of things they are interested in. Heating up = be aware of how long you are running it and do not walk away from the machine while it is running. I run the mill early in the day (it’s hot here in the south) and I have an ice pack I lay on the mixer to help keep it cool while it runs. While I was a tech, our labs were kept obscenely cold for the purpose of ensuring the machines didn’t over heat. And for safety reasons, we never left them unattended and running. I do nothing else while I mill. In summary, it’s a great little mill that will get you into milling on a budget.
