I've used them on 6061 aluminum and stainless with zero problems and when cutting aluminum was able to make some pretty deep passes with no issue.Tip for using the parting tool on a mini lathe:Since space is an issue and the parting tool will protrude too far to be entirely useful as the other reviewer mentioned, try using about a 5/16" shim and flipping the parting tool. You'll have to run the lathe in reverse but you'll be able to bring the tool farther into the tool post. I now have enough room to part 1" round bar and have much less chatter.
