So this is basically two parts - a solid piece of plastic which has a lip for the opening in the drywall, and the second part is 2 thin flimsy metal pieces that click into the plastic and have holes so you can fasten them to the studs or ceiling joists. You align the opening where you ultimately want the speaker, nail or screw the fins into the wood, and you're done. This puts a hole for the drywaller to cut perfectly, and later you just go back, hook the wire up to the speaker, and put the speaker in. This kit doesn't hold any weight. Yes, it is flimsy when you install, but it doesn't matter - you're just setting the hole for the drywall guy. The weight of the speaker will be held up by the drywall, it will be fine. As you can see in my photo - intent matched. The drywall was installed with a perfect hole and access to the wire so I can just pop my speakers in. Invest in these. It's worth it. Install is about 2 minutes per speaker if you have any handyman ability whatsoever. You don't have to cut drywall holes, guess where the wire is, or make mistakes. I'm glad I found these. Any speakers I ever rough in, these are a must! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked out great, but the metal is delicate, so be gentle. *by L***A on February 7, 2021* Served it’s purpose. Fits my Goldwood CS-IC83 8” speakers I purchased through Amazon perfectly. Some reviews mention that these are flimsy. They aren’t meant to provide structural support-they’re strictly for the drywaller to know where to cut your speaker holes. I ended up accidentally snapping a couple of pieces, so I just screwed the short end right next to one ceiling truss, and used the other unbroken end to make up the difference. That worked out so well that I purposefully broke off one side on each mount in order to provide more stability. ### ⭐ Not as advertised *by C***G on June 28, 2019* These are terrible. Opening is 9.5”, not 8”. Screwed up our total A/V plan and cost me a small fortune to fix.
