Best budget transmitter for pilots with alot of different drones

The Jumper T12 is an very unique transmitter, it is a multiprotocol transmitter that is capable of communicating with most quads / wings out there (with the exception of Crossfire and Frsky R9). This minimizes the need for having multiple transmitters and is especially helpful for those that buy used quads (they tend to come with all sorts of different receivers).Priced at a very reasonable $99, it is in direct competition with the new Frsky X-lite. Both are based on OpenTX which allows for great flexibility. The major difference would be how it feels in your hands as well as the protocols supported. The Jumper T12 is a relatively small transmitter, it feels quite a bit smaller than my other transmitters. I've spent most of my flying career with the Frsky Taranis X9D+ and the Frsky Horus X10. Those are all rather bulky and heavy and I wouldn't be comfortable flying with those without a neck strap standing up, my typical flying position is sitting down with the transmitter in my lap. With the T12 it is lightweight and small enough that I am comfortable standing up and flying it without a neck strap. The T12 is about 521 grams (with AA batteries) while my Horus X10 breaks 1000 grams. The difference in weight is staggering. From a functionality perspective, both accomplishes the exact same feature set, with the exception of the T12 being capable of multiple protocols. The other major difference is in the gimbals, the Horus X10 has hall effect gimbals which are very smooth and likely to last forever as the detection of the positioning doesn't require any form of touch. On the other hand the T12 currently uses standard potentiometer type gimbals which will wear out after time (2 years+). I have heard that jumper is coming out with a hall effect gimbal upgrade that would bring up to par. Apart from the gimbal style, the gimbal is also shorter throw and smaller than the Taranis and Horus gimbal, this will take some time getting used to as the angle required to move the quad is different from the Frsky equivalent. Once I got used to it I was able to fly at the same level of precision as my Horus and my race times were identical. Thus the accuracy and precision of it is definitely on par with my $400 Horus. The T12 does not come with rechargeable batteries (or any batteries at all), by default it has a 4 AA cell harness. I would recommend either getting rechargeable AA batteries or a 2S lipo to power the T12, with the amount of flying that I do I would burn through batteries very quickly. I do like the fact that it allows for AA sized batteries though, as I go through my long fly days i found i could swap out batteries to keep going, whereas my Horus would have to be out of commision for at least an hour to recharge. The other quirk I found is that the directional pad on the bottom right is not the most intuitive. The up and down button is equivalent to the up and down button on the Frsky Taranis, whereas the left and right button are mapped to menu and page respectively, enter and back are on the left. It's not the most intuitive design and I frequently press right thinking that's selecting something only to page to the next page. This was a minor quirk that I got used to quickly but it will require some adjustment as well.Lastly the switches and screen are of great quality and are very well built, inspiring confidence.Overall this is an amazing budget transmitter. With a gimbal upgrade I see it at a feature parity with my $400 Horus, not to mention the added benefits of being able to connect with any RX protocol. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a transmitter.

    A true Mini-QX7! You won't regret it!

A fantastic transmitter! I was using a Spektrum and really wanted to go to OpenTx but didn't want to replace all my DSMX receivers. This was just the solution. Took a while to get used to the menu navigation buttons but once I did I realized the power of OpenTX. All 4 of whoops, Betafpv, Beecore, Tiny 7 and a 2" with a Spektrum satellite rx bound up with no problems. Loaded the Amber sound pack and have all of the switches announcing their functions! Feels just right in my hands and after adjusting the gimbals tension my control is the most precise it has ever been.
