It can even handle hard items including nuts. Though you always get a few pieces that are a big larger than the rest, this is still extremely effective in chopping. The rubber ring at the bottom is very effective at anchoring the item to the worktop while you pull the handle. The whole unit is very easy to clean and the blades are extremely sharp so care must be taken when handling for cleaning. Considering this item has the Tefal brand, I would have expected the clear plastic container part to be slightly more study, though. I find myself incorporating onions for flavour into dishes a lot more than before because of the ease of chopping them with this device. I’ll be weaning soon** A: It's more designed for chopping not pureed food in my view. A blender or blender stick would be more suitable I think for your needs. **Q: Does the 500ml version ofv this cut up a large onion in one go or should I get the bigger version?** A: I have the 900ml version and haven't tried a large onion withough cutting it at least in half first. It might do it but as the blades need to spin fast to chop putting something that big in will stop them spinning easily so I always just peel and quarter an onion before putting it in to chop **Q: is this dish washer safe?** A: I tried dish washer once. The top fills with water from where the string is pulled. That will be a long term problem and erode the strength and potentially break the string. I find it very easy to give a quick rinse under the tap once used, takes under a minute to clean it. **Q: Can you use this to blend cooked vegetables and lentils as a soup?** A: I have never used it for that purpose as its capacity is not large enough.
