It is FDA approved and found in many foods, even organic foods, but now I know that even though it comes from seaweed, it is actually indigestible, and studies show it can be bad for you. My personal opinion is that most likely it causes problems when people eat a substantial amount of the foods that contain it, I'm only using a very small dab of toothpaste when I brush, and then I do not swallow my toothpaste anyhow.
