I normally use it before a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and doesn't hurt to do a hot oil treatment. If scalp continues to itch or skin irritated I would see dermatologist. You can also try Keracare dry itchy scalp shampoo and conditioner **Q: Do you need to follow this with another shampoo or just condition the hair as usual?** A: As a cosmetologist I am very familiar with this product and it works BUT yes you do need to follow in with another shampoo because oat and protein is just to clarify the hair of any dandruff and oils you have to go back in with what the hair needs as far as “moisturizing shampoo if your hair is dry, strengthening shampoo if your hair is breaking and elasticity in the hair if it’s weak, and it goes on and then you add your conditioner to lock in what you have already provided the hair with.
