### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very convenient basic kit, lights slightly brighter than 192-AI, but shorter battery life
*by D***U on December 4, 2025*

This set of two Neewer NL-192B bicolor panel lights is almost indistinguishable from the NL-192AI I recently tested. Other than the model number, a few cosmetic differences on the back pane, and a different power adapter, you'd be hard pressed to tell which is which. The main advantage of this kit is, unlike the single NL-192AI light I tried, it gives you two lights in one kit, with the same basic accessories to get you up and running with minimal fuss or additional shopping. That said, as with the 192AI, the tradeoff for the convenience and price is power. The 192B panels are a little brighter than the 192AI, but at the cost of a much shorter battery life, especially at the extreme ends of the color temperature range. And in any case, the brightness difference, while noticeable, is so small I wouldn't say the 192B is the clear winner--the battery life of the 192AI is probably the more important factor considering how low the output of these lights are regardless of which one you go with. Battery Test To test the battery longevity, I first charged both NL-192B lights fully and then took a timelapse video at 5 second intervals with the lights unplugged at 5600K and 100% intensity. In all, 1904 frames with both lights were recorded over a period of 5470 seconds, which comes out to 91.17 minutes or 1 hour and 31 minutes. That's just over the claimed runtime of 90 minutes. In addition, the second light actually lasted a bit longer, running for an additional 36 frames over 180 seconds, or another 3 minutes. So you should expect some variability between the two lights in any given pack in spite of being the same model. That said, this is with brand new lights containing brand new batteries, so over time you can expect that number to gradually decline. In addition, the actual runtime may vary depending on environmental conditions like temperature. Even so, it's a good result for a first run--most devices fall short of their advertised claims. To be sure, however, I recharged the lights and ran a second test at 4400K, which uses both color LEDs rather than just one, in case that used more power. In that test the first light ran for 897 frames over 4485 seconds, which comes out to 74.75 minutes or about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The second light lasted for 968 frames over 4840 seconds, which comes out to 80.67 minutes or about 1 hour and 20 minutes. So it appears your best runtime will probably come from either the highest (5600K) or lowest (3200K) color temperature rather than something in between, as any mixed color will be using all 192 LEDs, while the extremes will only be using half of the LEDs (96 warm white, or 96 cool white). I also did a test with the second light at 3200K, and in that case it lasted 1111 frames over 5555 seconds, or 92.58 minutes, so again, just over the claimed 90 minute runtime. Brightness Test As with all the other lights I've tested this year, I set up the NL-192B lights about 2 meters away from a blank wall at about 1.4m off the ground. I then took pictures at intensities of 100%, 50%, 20%, 10%, and 1% at 3200K, 4000K, and 5600K, to keep the color temperatures consistent with other lights I've tested. In addition, since this is a set of 2 lights, after testing each light separately, I also tested them together to see the effect of combining both on brightness. The first thing to note is that, while the battery will not last as long as the NL-192AI, the NL-192B is noticeably brighter--and that probably explains some of the difference in battery life, considering otherwise the spec sheet looks almost identical. The second is that small panel lights like these, especially with a built-in diffuser, simply can't contend with more powerful COB lights or even the 100W Neewer AP-100B I reviewed earlier this year. At a shutter speed of 1/60 as I would use for video, IS0 200, and aperture of F4.0, the result was a rather dimly lit wall, which would appear off-white if properly light. Controls Both the brightness/intensity and color temperature on this unit are controlled by stepless wheels, while the power is turned on with a small, flat button. The trouble with the button is because it's so small and flat, it's sometimes a little hard to find. It'd be nice to have a bit more obvious tactile feedback. As for the wheels, I found they sometimes overshoot, particularly for the brightness setting. And it's not just while you're turning them--there were times where I set the light to, say, 50%, and then a second or two later the display would suddenly change to 49%. In one case there were several seconds' delay before that happened. I'm not really sure what's going on there--is the light simply taking a little while to detect the actual setting, or is it actually changing it after a slight delay? My guess is, since it's stepless adjustment, the display is an estimate rather than an exact figure, and the exact adjustment is analog rather than digital. But that's just a guess--there is nothing in the manual, which is very basic and thin on information, to indicate how the controls actually work electrically. Practical Considerations Because of the low brightness, I think these lights are only going to work in close quarters with the widest aperture you can get with a given lens or camera and raising the ISO to compensate for the lack of light, or smartphones which seem to do much better than dedicated cameras in low-light conditions. For my part, I have a closet I use for recording that is too small to accommodate COB lights with softboxes, but these small flat-panel lights with their compact stands are able to fit in. And because they have built-in batteries, I don't have to worry about running a power cable into the closet while using them for any recording sessions less than 90 minutes long. That said, two is probably the bare minimum you need to get enough light, and only with the lights very close to the subject. Otherwise, you might want to consider relegating these to fill duties rather than your main lights. For most purposes, you are going to be far better off with a more powerful COB light--even a 60W one is going to be a huge step up--or if you definitely need a panel light, something like the Neewer AP100B, which at 100W is far brighter than these 20W lights, even when both are combined. Of course, the tradeoff is size and portability, but there are some lights that can be run with a V-mount battery or that have built-in batteries and still far exceed the output of this panel light. (See my review history for examples.)
