BUY IT! - I subscribe to the actual codes online at the ICC, but the site (and the code) is difficult to navigate and often requires interpretation and cross-referencing various sections, tables, etc. Honestly I purchased this book on a whim and was not expecting much. Most of these types of books are pretty useless. DeWalt however has done a great job pulling the IRC together in a way any building pro can understand, with well organized excerpts from the IRC, relevant photos/diagrams, and a succinct explanation of what you need to know especially concerning the many oddball exceptions that even code enforcement folks often get wrong. Just buy it you’ll thank me. Review: Good information for home owners - This text was prepared by DeWalt and Cengage. The collaboration results in a very readable text with excellent illustrations. I am not an experienced builder, so bought this book to help me evaluate the quotes I received received from contractors for a major home improvement project. Reading this book alone may not make you a journeyman trade person, but the book will help you stay on track to do a project correctly, or to get a sense whether work you contract out is of good quality.
