All metal including the box it is mounted in. Wiring diagram in the cover is difficult to see, very small print. However there are several wiring instructions on You Tube that work fine. As I was replacing a like item I had no fuss with the wiring. Mounted outside on the wall of the house, controls my in-ground pool pump. Easy to install, easy to program and works fine right out of the box. The reason for replacement of the old one was the clock motor stopped working in the old one.
