It cleans both styles of surfaces and penetrates the dirt without much trouble. For harder more soiled areas that I may have missed the first time and discovered it days/weeks later, like under the edge of the fridge, just let the product soak for a minute or two and it'll lift right up. Our home is 100+ years old and the wood floor in the dining room is the original flooring, so I have no trust issues at all with this product. It's done well with cleaning up everything from sticky things like syrup and soda, to nasty things like pet accidents.
