The only point I would like to add is that it does warm a bit but I would have to leave it on for sometime to be able to provide an accurate feedback regarding this.

**Q: what are the noise levels like**
A: The unit is fanless and totally silent.
The entire metallic shell is a heatsink and so moderately warm (not hot) in operation.

**Q: If you have a mix of imac's running thunderbolt 2 & 3 connections respectively will the sonnet solo10g-tb3 ethernet adapter be backwards compatible?**
A: You need to use a powered Thunderbolt hub to enable Thunderbolt 2 machines to use this adapter and apple thunderbolt 2 to 3 converter.
I used a startech thunderbolt 3 docking station part #tb3dk2dppdue and an apple thunderbolt 2 to 3 dongle / adapter.

**Q: Would this work with an older imac via thunderbolt2 via an adaptor with tb3>tb2 ?**
A: you will need a powered thunderbolt 3 docking station and the adapter as it requires more power

**Q: Does this work with Linux as well?**
A: Yes, the Sonnet site says: Compatible with Linux computer with Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 3 ports, Linux Kernel 5.0+

Using this to my 10GB upgraded Synolody disk for direct access on my macbook pro. This has literally and instantly reduced a 4GB file transfer from 20 min to 3 seconds in a heart beat. Amazing piece of equipment and for those out there who have a NAS Diskstation and would like to enjoy a fast local access... go for it.
