My door is new and have no holes in it for lock** A: My door was also steel, but the steel was just the door panels. It had a wooden core. The screws go into the core. The template is only needed to start the hole saws center bit. Once the center bit drills through the steel panel it will hold the hole saw in position to drill the bigger hole. If your door is all steel, you can use a small bit to make pilot holes for the screws and attach it like the instructions say. **Q: 1" hole saw, how didyou attach it to a drill???
