## Description

Product description How Bio Clean works In nature, all animal plant matter is broken down and recycled into plant food by enzymes and bacteria. Bio-Clean uses this same principle to remove organic waste that accumulates in your plumbing and septic system. Like all living things, bacteria must "eat" to survive. Fortunately, the grease, hair, soap film and organic waste found in your drains and septic tanks are food for the bacteria in Bio-Clean. The enzymes prepare this "food" or the bacteria by breaking down the large molecules into a size the bacteria can "swallow." When mixed with warm water, Bio-Clean immediately goes to work! The enzymes are very fast and start breaking down waste on contact. Bio-Clean contains billions of bacteria and as they eat they double in number every 30 minutes! Unrestricted by gravity, they spread through the entire plumbing system, devouring all the organic waste. Bio-Clean is a special combination of natural bacteria and enzymes formulated specifically to digest dead organic waste found in your plumbing system. Bio-Clean will remove the grease, hair, soap scum, food particles, paper, and cotton that are plugging your drain lines. Bio-Clean will not digest or have any effect on inorganic materials such as a plastic pipe. Bio-Clean will not produce heat, fumes, or boiling as dangerous chemicals do. Bio Clean Family of products Bio Clean is Effective Immediately after pouring Bio-Clean into the drain, the bacteria begin to eat their way into the waste that has accumulated on the bottom, top, and sides of the drain pipe. This is their natural food. They digest the waste and spread throughout your system, cleaning it completely. Up to 100 drain treatments per 2 lb. container (perfect for kitchens, baths, showers, drains in your home or business) 1 box of packets or two 2 lb. containers treats 1,000 gallon septic tank Eliminates the need to cable drains Eliminates the need to buy dangerous chemicals Cleans plumbing thoroughly instead of just burning a small hole through the waste Reduces waste in septic tanks and drain fields requiring less frequent pump outs (saving you money) Most septic systems in operation today are not functioning well. Chemicals, bleaches, detergents, food preservatives, soaps, and bowl cleaners inhibit or kill bacterial action within your system. This lets solids accumulate in the tank, some of which flow out and clog the drain field.

Review: Works well, not all of the product dissolves. - REVISION (raising to 5 stars). When I reviewed this product, I did not know that a company that installed fiber optic cable in my neighborhood bored into my sewer main line, which, over time caused mud to backflow into my pipes and eventually caused all drains in my home to backup completely. I had coincidentally just used Bio-Clean in several drains, so thought that the Bio-Clean was the cause, but it was not. Thankfully, the city put pressure on that company to fix the problem right away, which they did. After the main line was repaired, I continued to use this product without any issues. The fact that not all of the product dissolves turned out not to be a problem. The product definitely works well (see the last 2 paragraphs of my review) and is far LESS expensive than drain gel. Note that enzymatic cleaners work at the boundary of where water meets organic material. No enzymatic cleaner will quickly eat through an entire stick of butter -- they work on the surface area that is exposed. Original Review: A good portion of the product does not completely dissolve, no matter how thoroughly you mix or stir it, and it will make drains backup that had no clog. I followed the directions and treated a bathroom sink and shower drain over 2 days, flushing with gallons of hot water in the mornings. On day 3, water going down the bathroom sink caused water to backup into a kitchen sink. NONE of these drains were previously clogged or even slow. On day 3, when someone was showering (after the drain had been thoroughly flushed with gallons of hot water), water backed up into a garbage disposal. I turned the disposal on to create turbulence, and this caused water to backup into the shower, which is 25 feet away. Some of the product came back up the drain onto the shower floor; it looks like cornmeal bisque. I believe all of the product that did not dissolve will eventually clear, but treating these drains at the same time on the same days for 5 days in a row would likely create a much bigger problem. Just don't go crazy treating many drains over consecutive days, and the day after each treatment, make sure you flush with lots of water. All of that said -- I ran a pipe brush on a stiff handle down a bathroom sink (the stiff handle prevents it from going through the P-trap). I slowly remove the brush, and massive, thick, ink-black gunk splattered all over the sink. I had previously treated the pipe with drain gel but never brushed it. After this, I decided to treat the pipe with this product. The next day, after flushing it with lots of hot water (which I did after the gel treatments too), I ran the brush down the pipe, expecting that at least some of the gunk would still be there and come back up when I removed the brush. There was ZERO gunk. The brush came out of the pipe just as clean as it was when it went into the pipe. This was after just one treatment (however, again, I had previously treated it with a high quality enzymatic drain gel multiple times). So, the product does work. There should be some warning on the label about the fact that much of it does NOT dissolve and the possibility that it will create temporary backups / clogs.
Review: Hope for no more clogged drains. - Pros: Easy to use (just mix with water, stir, and pour down drain), lasts for several months after initial intensive application (depending on the number of drains you treat), maker provides prompt, knowledgeable responses to inquiries, definitely works to eliminate odor and gnats from garbage disposals, seems to alleviate/eliminate sluggish flows and blocks in critical drains (can't tell for sure yet in all drains, but no issues after use in kitchen drain, and definitely eliminated sluggish shower drain). NOTE: DO NOT USE disinfectant products in the drain lines after treatment; it will kill the beneficial bacteria that "eats" all the crapola in your line. Cons: What cons? First bought this on the recommendation of a plumber who says it is in widespread use for septic systems. Although we are on city water and sewer, we bought it after experiencing complete blockage of our kitchen drain twice over the past two years. This required the plumber to snake out 30-ft of drain. Unfortunately, most homes constructed as is ours after 2000 typically have smaller drain lines from sinks, limiting flow and allowing accumulation of matter. Compounding this is drain line inclinations that are too shallow and the use of water-saving devices that just don't push the volume of water through the lines needed to avoid matter buildup. We don't dump grease or solid food matter into the garbage disposal and it still clogged! The new construction drain lines are too small, insufficiently sloped, and water-saving devices don't produce enough flow to keep the lines clear. Using this now on a routing (monthly maintenance) after our initial intensive application (five consecutive daily applications, leave sit at least 8 hrs without running or flushing toilets). Encouraging results. The plumber also recommended that once a day or so, fill one sink bowl completely with mildly soapy, warm water. Then release it all at once, simulating the kind of flow in that frequently clogging sink drain that it needs to keep clear.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: On the website it says it names kitty litter boxes under applications. Does anyone know how they mean exactly?**
A: For Kitty Litter boxes you can sprinkle the dry powder in the box before adding litter or on top of the litter after adding it. When the urine makes contact with the freeze dried bacteria it activates them and greatly reduces the or eliminates the odors. Thank-you

**Q: after the first month of 5 days, in a 2 story house for maintenance do you do the basement first, then do the upstairs the next day?**
A: I just had my plumber here and he suggested getting some of this stuff. I had an upstairs bathroom sink draining very slowly. He cleared the drain and told me to buy this stuff - or anything comparable, that said "enzymatic" on it - he said to use a powdered solution, like this product, and use it 5 night in a row and then once a month after that. He told me I could START in any drain in the house - the bathtub drain, the bathroom sink drain, the kitchen sink drain - he said it didn't matter because once the enzymes got started, they grow and look for nutrients throughout the pipes, and will spread on their own. You have to treat it once a month because these little enzymes don't last forever, however much gunk they can feed off inside your drains. So I will be starting on my upstairs bathroom sink, and probably maintain it from there or the kitchen sink.

**Q: how long will 2 lbs last?**
A: Probably 2 years. I have 7 or 8 drains (sinks, showers, tubs) and I try to do them once every other month.

**Q: Can this be used in conjunction with a commercial grease trap?**
A: I don't have a grease trap, however you can find expanded instructions at http://www.freshwatersystems.com/support/Instructions_for_use_%20of_%20Bio-Clean.pdf. It does contain some information concerning grease traps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Uncertain about effectiveness

I use this but am not sure if it is any more effective than plunging and using boiling water to remove a clog. It may be most effective as regular maintenance, before a clog develops.
