I purchased the first one in 2018 because of the Washington State wildfire smoke. This unit isn't small, but it is powerful. Wildfire season has become a permanent feature of summer/fall, so I wanted a second unit. Each unit covers 1500 SF on the high setting and my home is larger than this. Shipment was FAST and the unit was packed well to prevent damage. It arrived in perfect condition. As luck would have it, this unit arrived 7/30. On 8/2, several large wildfires broke out within 10-20 miles of my home. Thousands were evacuated. My home did not perish and I was able to maintain good indoor air quality despite the horrible outdoor air quality. Wildfire smoke contains toxic gases in addition to the harmful particulate matter. The good: This unit is made in the USA from steel and has a German fan. Air first passes through a pre-filter designed to capture large and medium sized particles. The air then passes through fifteen pounds of a treated carbon blend specifically designed to remove harmful chemicals and odors. The last layer is a true HEPA medical filter that traps 99.97% of particles, as small as 0.3 microns. It is my understanding that potassium iodide acts as a reactive agent that breaks down specific gas molecules through chemical bonding, rather than just trapping them physically. A noticeable return of household odors or reduced airflow indicates the carbon and HEPA media have reached capacity. The not so good: It is pricey and so are the filter replacements. The unit performed so poorly it was as if the unit was not even turned on, I checked the unit for proper function and ensured the air filter was incerted properly but after the checks it still failed to filter in my small use area (appox 1/3 the stated area) The unit also gave off a strong odor which I suspect was actually ozone which would actually make this a very damaging unit for your health to run in your home over a long period of time. Noise level was expected, it was very loud on the highest settings but not very noticible on the 2 lower settings. The overall unit durability seemed to be decent and built simply.
