I use it for soil temps in order to time the planting of garden vegetable seeds. It’s accurate and gives a good reading within a few seconds of sitting in the soil. None of their gauges are very easy to read. You need to remember to insert them at a steep angle so you can see the numbers easily and clearly. The display is not illuminated at all, so getting the correct light balance in order to read the numbers is a hassle. But it isn’t a dealbreaker. It’s priced decently and does the job. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good for soil temps *by J***S on March 31, 2012* I am a golf course superintendent. I use this to take soil temps to determine when to spray certain chemicals such as pre-emergent crabgrass herbicides. This little guy is easier to read than most soil thermometers. Give it about 10 seconds to stabilize and record your temp. Consistent with other soil thermometers I have used. For the price its a great buy.Only negative would be that it feels a little flimsy.
