It has been out of service for 4 months now however despite my attempts to repair it - and I'm a fairly seasoned "honey-do" dad who has also replaced stuff like car door lock assemblies, etc. Despite the "metal gears" it blew up and I went hunting for the failed parts online. I found them at a reasonable price with the exception of the infamous "food grade" grease that costs a lot and comes in UPS truck size portions. So I very carefully re-assembled my new parts and grease, following a youtube video. Lo and behold it knocked! So I disassembled, cleaned the parts, and found that there was possibly a part still needing replacement. I ordered that pin and waited for it to arrive. When I got around to tackling the project to finish it of, I repeated the process, buttoned it up, and it knocked again!! Lo and behold there was yet another part defective. So i waited yet again for a part. When the mixer reappeared on my "honey do" list text, I tackled it again - today. It just irked me that there is so much play in the worm gear yet despite the parts looking perfect. So I buttoned it all up again, and tested. Once again, there is knocking but it's quieter. My hunch is that it will blow up fairly soon and my wife agreed not to use it until I can get some answers. I am NOT happy with this KitchenAid Pro 600 KP26M1PSL **Q: what's the difference between KP26M1XER and this** A: they are exactly the same and it is an amazing mixer. I also ordered a heavy duty whip attachment and a paddle attachment that has a rubber wiper blade for better mixing because of the amount of baking I do. The attachments that come with this mixer are great for a average use baker. **Q: If I buy in US, will it work in Europe, specifically Italy?** A: You will need a voltage converter because electricity in Italy, and the rest of Europe for that matter, comes out of the wall socket at 220V 50Hz and the Kitchen Aid KP26M1PSL requires 120V 60Hz. **Q: The reviews are all from 2006 & 2007 have they fixed the problem with the plastic cover to the metal one on the pro 600 KitchenAid mixer?** A: Ann, I don't use the plastic cover at all. To avoid flour flying, in mixing batter, lower bowl all the way.
