When he throws the litter it does not go outside the box. It's a perfect size for him because he's at 12 lb cat. The litter box itself doesn't smell but the litter that I'm using which is tidy cat works really well there's no scent to the letter and it holds the smell from him using the bathroom really really well. It's easy to scoop the poop out of the litter box because it is enormously huge but it is very functional. Aside from it being very bulky it looks nice. I feel like it's very sturdy and very easy to use and maintain.

We have an 18-year-old, high-maintenance calico who, in her golden years, has become—let’s say—“litter-box aiming challenged.” For a while, her trot to the litter box had become a supervised event. If we weren’t watching closely, there was a very real chance that her insistent proclivity for depositing her goodies in a corner of the box would end up with a miss and a mess. Enter the IRIS USA XX-Large Open Top Litter Box. Game. Changer. This thing is huge (in the best way). The high sides and generous space mean she can turn, reposition, contemplate her life choices—and still actually land where she’s supposed to and demands to. No more hovering nearby like nervous stage managers making sure everything goes according to plan. The tall scatter shield has been especially helpful. Even with her less-than-precise technique, everything stays contained inside the box where it belongs. Cleanup is easier, the surrounding area stays clean, and our stress level has dropped significantly.
