    Pro-registration Avengers Assemble!

*by N***M on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 7, 2008*

With the dust of Civil War settled, and new S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Tony "Iron Man" Stark starting his fifty state initiative, he sets his sights on creating a new team of pro-registration Avengers. Featuring some ultra-familiar faces, Tony's new team features himself, Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man, Wasp, Black Widow, Ares, and his former New Avengers team mate The Sentry. Things get kind of weird though as the Mighty Avengers embark in battle with the creatures of the Mole Man, especially when Tony morphs into an all-powerful female construct claiming to be the longtime classic Avengers foe Ultron. Were it not for the energy and surprising sense of wonder that writer Brian Michael Bendis manages to inject in Mighty Avengers, the book as a whole just wouldn't work. However, his lineup makes more sense than his original New Avengers lineup, and there are enough comedic moments sprinkled between the action pieces to keep you interested. One thing that should be mentioned though in regards to Bendis: what is with the thought bubbles? There are so many throughout this hardcover collection that you'll think you're back in the silver age, and they are quite annoying, especially when placed between the dialogue bubbles. Flaws aside, the real selling point of The Ultron Initiative is the gorgeous artwork of the great Frank Cho, who never disappoints. All in all, while Bendis' New Avengers is still a superior book, the Mighty Avengers get off to a pretty good start, and there is enough promise here for something really special to develop.

I would have given it 4 but I know it's just the start for this team

*by M***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 24, 2014*

I have been reading each Avengers title after Disassembled and on, so I've come to love the team of New Avengers with their big name members like Spider-Man & Wolverine but what made that book shine was that it made lesser known heroes shine within the group dynamic. Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, Echo & Iron Fist among others all feel like they belong together fighting wrongs.I has apprehensive when I began reading Mighty Avengers because it wasn't the team I have been enjoying and it had few characters that I've even read about. I'll be honest though, after a bumpy start, the book came together and was pretty fun. I can tell it's just the start of something big and I almost purchased the collection that includes Vol. 2 but I wanted to test the waters first (and it was cheaper to buy them individually.)All in all, it was worth it. The team is a little bland but that's to be expected with the roster and the fact that they are basically the super-police. A little more time into the series and I'm sure the characters will bloom more. The thing between Iron Man & Black Widow is already interesting and the other team interactions seem like they'll add that much more to later volumes.I recommend it and that if you haven't already, pick up the New Avengers books up to Vol. 7 and read them first. The Initiative is another great reading series that loosely ties in but isn't necessary but awesome as well.

Tony gets a makeover, ultron style

*by I***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 4, 2016*

So ultron uses Tony Starks extremis virus to remake Tony into something naked, partially silver woman who looks exactly like the wasp, the ex wife of ultrons creator. Then mutton tries to destroy the world for reasons. That's more or less what happens in this volume, abit with more banter and interpersonal drama. This isn't bending best work as a writer, he decided to put thought balloons among all the dialogue, which made a lot of characters come off as kind of petty. Cho's art is good, but all of his lovingly drawn female butts get kind of silly after about the third issue. All in all, this isn't the best avengers story, it's not even the best ultron story. I enjoyed it, but it'd not a must read by any means.
