At first I was suspicious of the seal, but soon realized that if I push on the very center when I slip on the lid, it forms a natural vacuum, sort of reminiscent of the old burpable Tupperware. I have limited space so my Luminarc glasses serve not only as my drinking glasses, but also my storage containers. The lids have always been the least functional part of the concept, but Oh Happy Day! I love these lids!! The size is perfect for the working glass and even fits on my small glass Pyrex--the plastic lids that come with the Pyrex eventually split and certainly shouldn't be used to cover anything hot. Being able to use these lids on the Pyrex was an added bonus for versatility.
