This is ideal for large, flat surfaces and can do some damage if you use too much pressure, at an angle, or try to scrape small, detailed areas. The blade is sharp, the handle is comfortable. I ended up unhappy with my first new coat of stain, and I used this again to remove it quickly, before it had even fully dried. Excellent value for the cost, in my opinion-- I stripped an entire furniture piece with it and the blade doesn't seem to have dulled at all. Easy to wipe clean periodically during the process.
