Review: Product works fine, configuration just a tad different than the LinkSys product it replaces. - I had purchased this by mistake, thinking it was similar to a LinkSys product supported by my VOIP provider. (Cisco bought LinkSys). I was accustomed to my previous product which 'remembers' data entered between user tabs. This device does not. WHEN MAKING CHANGES IN THE CONFIGURATIONS, YOU MUST SAVE ALL CHANGES ON THE TAB IN WHICH YOU ARE WORKING BEFORE PROCEEDING! Once I figured this out, my configuration changes stuck, and the box worked just like it's supposed to. I have read that some VOIP adapters are hard to configure, but I think some of that is simply us users not understanding the product we are using. My LinkSys VOIP adapter remembered changes between Tabs, the Cisco version of it does not. Nothing bad about the product, just confusion on my part.
Review: Modem worth the small investment! - Our office uses RingCentral and we originally used no-brand VOIP modems bought from eBay for $5 --- for this price, it's probably not surprising we had many issues with those modems (dropped calls, ghost calls, unable to pick up calls, unable to make calls)... you name it, we experienced it. I finally got fed up trying to troubleshoot what was wrong and went on RingCentral's website to see what product they recommend: Cisco SPA 122. I checked desertcart's pricing which sells the same unit for about $30 less and would arrive in a day with Prime. Sold! Once the modem arrived, the RingCentral setup was super simple (but perhaps not so obvious). Insert a paper clip in the back of the modem to reset it's setting. Plug in the power, ethernet cable (yellow), and a phone (grey 1 or 2). Pick up the handset (there will be no dial tone), dial **** (four stars), when you hear the configuration menu - dial 110# and write down the given IP address, now login to your RingCentral account, select Phones and Devices from the left column, select Add Device at the bottom (or the line you want to change and click "Setup and Provisions"), select "Cisco" then the model number "122", click next and enter the IP address you just wrote down, on the next page, you'll need to plug your computer to the modem (blue) by ehternet cable and also turn off all other internet connections to your computer (i.e. your wifi) so that your computer is only connected to the modem, when you click next the instructions will tell you to enter the same IP address in a web browser, the modem webpage should pop-up (default login is user admin, password admin), once logged in you need to change the default login (user/password to something more secure), go back to the RC instructions page and config the modem as they indicated, once you click save and go back to the RC page, you will be asked to enter the user and password you just set, once you click next, RC will do it's thing and confirm when it's finished configuring, once the modem reboots, your modem should now be set to your RC account. You can confirm your setup worked by picking up the handset, you should hear a dial tone and be able to make calls. Sooo... after having this new modem for a few weeks, all our issues before have gone away and we have not had any other incidents. The sound quality has also improved a lot (sounds like a normal landline). All in all, the $40-ish spent on this modem was well worth every penny and we should have just bought this modem in the first place.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does this work with a fax line**
A: This device has 2 phone ports , 1 Ethernet port and 1 internet port . Fax machines usually goes straight Into the wall port . This unit allows phone service and should enable fax service as Well. The fax machine just as well

**Q: Does this work instead of ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 Residential Gateway with 802.11n/ 4 GigaPort Router/ 2-Voice Lines for Comcast phone service?**
A: No. This is not a cable modem gateway. This is a VoIP Analogue Telephone Adapter. It requires that you already have a cable Modem, or other highspeed Internet gateway. This will plug into your cable/ADSL modem RJ45 Ethernet jack. This has built-in Router, or you can turn off its router function and just use as ATA phone adapter. You must have your own BYOD VoIP telephone service provider to use this ATA phone adapter. You have to configure the ATA to work with your specific chosen VoIP service provider.

**Q: Is it compatible with Asterisk?**
A: The SPA112/SPA122 utilize the SIP Protocol for VoIP. If your Asterisk server supports SIP protocol, then yes it is compatible with Asterisk.

**Q: What does ATA stand for?**
A: I believe ATA means analog telephone adapter since it converts the VOIP connection to an analog (traditional POTS) telephone jack that you would plug a traditional phone into. Of course you need to have a VOIP phone service provider that supports this device. You would need to check with them. We use RingCentral.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very confusing configuration set up. I needed help for this.
*by M***N on February 4, 2015*

Takes quite a bit of configuration. I use ringcentral for my office and had to contact them and spend some time on the phone to sort it out. Works great now. Same as my old one (Linksys VoIP phone adapter with router). Don't waste your time calling Cisco to help you with the purchase or IT if you can avoid it. I don't think they know what they are doing at all. If you have questions, you may ask on here and I'll tell you what I remember.
