You can press the bypass switch to allow signal to pass through as normal (non-compressed) or you can unplug the patch cables that you are running to it from your audio interface or mixer. It's an inexpensive yet very excellent compressor. **Q: Can I use this as a limiter for my in ear monitors?** A: I like my RMR leveling amp. While it would probably do a good job at controlling levels. Its designed to add coloration to the sound that might not be desirable for a monitoring application. So far, I use mine to control dynamics and add interest for a direct injected bass guitar (I mix with an analogue mixer). FMR responded to a call for a more "colorful" compressor, and the RNLA is it. By changing the way the compressor behaves, The RNLA imparts a little character into the signal that some describe as "gooey". Great on vox.
