For that purpose the quick on and off was a huge bonus. I had some size concerns after reading reviews from other sellers stating these ran a size large. I normally wear a 9 or 9 1/2 and wanted to use an insole for better arch support as well as thick winter socks. Afraid the 9 1/2 even running large might not be enough I also ordered a pair in 10. As it turned out the 9 1/2 fit fine with the insoles. With the zipper these go easily and quickly on so I can get the puppy outside. They are seem warm and water proof enough for that purpose. and I am quite happy with them. I only have some small criticisms. They are a little loose around the heel even with thick socks.They also are tight enough at the tops that they won't zip with pants tucked inside.
