## Description

This Christmas, the Doctor comes face to face with … the Doctor! The epic finale to the Peter Capaldi era of Doctor Who, “Twice Upon a Time,” is coming to DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD, featuring the return of Pearl Mackie and special guests Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and David Bradley (Filch in the Harry Potter movies), and introducing the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch). It promises to be an epic adventure you won’t want to miss!

Review: A great farewell to this Doctor - I really like Capaldi as the Doctor, and this ending to his run is a perfect way for him to go out. It's brilliantly done to bookend his regeneration with Hartnells and a brilliant twist to add in the dying WWI soldier. Who that soldier was/is was a great bonus to the tale. All of them don't want to leave but are so necessary that they do what is necessary for the stories to continue. The story takes place on the fateful day, Christmas day of 1914. It is no spoilers to say it all ends as it should and you appreciate that they did get where they had to end up since they earned it.
Review: Great Humor and a Touching Story - Lots of Surprises! - It starts "709 episodes ago", the Doctor's adventure with Ben and Polly called " Doctor Who, Story 29: The Tenth Planet ". At the end, the Doctor, the FIRST Doctor, can feel himself start to regenerate. But he resists: "I can't go through with it. I will fight it. I will not change." He walks outside into the flurrying snow, and hears something. He calls out, "Hello? Is someone there?" And that's how the 1st Doctor meets the 12th Doctor, with 1500 years between them. While they regard each other, the snowflakes freeze in position in the air around them. Birds freeze on the wing, people freeze, flames freeze, everything pauses. Except for the Doctors and one person. And one THING. This Christmas Special originally aired in December 2017. It is about 56 minutes without commercials. If you buy it on disc, English subtitles are available on both the episode and the one Bonus Feature. If you follow Doctor Who at all, you know that this is the last episode for Peter Capaldi (plays the 12th Doctor), Steven Moffat (long-time writer and show runner) and Brian Minchin (producer). Warning – You probably aren't inclined to do so, but you do not want to watch the Bonus before you have seen the episode, as there are spoilers: ...bonus... "Dr Who Extra" (23 minutes) Commentators include Steven Moffat, David Bradley (plays the 1st Doctor redux), Mark Gatiss (plays the Captain), Pearl Mackie, Rachel Talalay (director), Nicholas Briggs (voice of the Daleks) and Matt Lucas. This bonus has clips from the show, clips from rehearsals and little sit-downs with the commentators. They recreated the original all-white TARDIS control room from the era of the first Doctors, though they couldn't help but add a couple improvements. Mark Gatiss proposes that that "just goes to show how quickly and easily we could remake those missing episodes." Now THAT'S an idea! It was a relief to me that I really liked this Christmas Special, as I am not a fan of the mediocre 2016 special, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio." "Twice Upon a Time" has a lot of humor and the feel-good Christmas-y feeling of the 2010 " Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol ". (I don't know about you, but my favorite is still the 2007 "Voyage of the Damned", Season 4 with David Tennant.) Happy Reader

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Confessions of an American fan of WHO
*by W***R on April 6, 2018*

Unlike many Who fans I had a hard time getting used to Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who. I entered 'Whoville' in the Matt Smith years since I live in the US and so had missed a childhood filled with Daleks and Cybermen. I immediately liked the quirky Smith and when I had exhausted all of his work, I went back to David Tennant and broadened my allegiance to him as well. I went backwards again to explore season 1 but after Tennant and Smith that season seemed tame in comparison. Finally, on I went to explore series 8 and 9 with Capaldi, whose dark episodes seemed to be winding down the Doctor Who franchise. I thought well that's that - there seemed to be so much angst in series 9 about the downside of living forever which you can learn from any 90 year old. So I didn't even watch series 10. But this special was a Doctor Regeneration, so I had to see it. Was there a future for the Doctor? I had seen the special on the making of the first doctor (a must see especially for a newbie), so it was an interesting premise that the first doctor and the 'last doctor' might meet up with each other over the whole issue of regeneration. Surprisingly I enjoyed this special. It was as inventive as always. David Bradley is excellent as the first doctor and I finally decided that Capaldi should join my list of favorite doctors- now that he's leaving. Much as I love Jenna Coleman and have followed her into her Victoria series, I think she was too overbearing and Capaldi too much of a child listening to mother in series 9. IMO Capaldi does better in this special because she is not a major presence in it. Now I hope there will be more Who episodes to come but again it will be hard for me to adjust. Meanwhile, I bought the Capaldi collection (8,9, and 10) to revisit/or see for the first time with a new attitude. I also bought the Tom Baker blu-ray season 1 (or 12 depending on who is counting) and the lost episode of Shada to see if I would like Tom Baker as the Doctor - I did. So there's more Who to come!
