It's got just enough weight to it to give me the power I need. The finish to it I can tell it is a quality tool and the grain is very tight. I would recommend this.

Good mallet. Only needs light sanding to smooth it out, especially if you’re going to apply any kind of finish. As to its suitability and/or durability it all depends on your style and method of use. If you’re taking light taps on all wood handled chisels while carving it should last you a lifetime. If, however, you’re whanging away on a chisel with a metal hoop on it while mortising hickory, then, not so much.
