### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Basic Kanji for beginners (like me!)
*by on Reviewed in the United States July 21, 2026*

These are very basic... and a lot of redundant/related Kanji, but for an absolute novice they are very handy! The box itself is better than the Katakana box... but I still wish it was in the same style of box as the Hiragana set.First a few gripes and complaints; I'm a harsh judge, so take this with a grain of salt on how important they are to you. Note that I still gave it 5-stars, so these are all minor complaints. For beginners, these are still excellent high-quality cards to start with!1) I wish it would have stuck closer to the JPLT N5 list. It seems like there is a weird lack of JPLT based flash card sets... but a lot of JPLT learning materials. The nice thing about having a government-issued vocab list is that it makes it a lot easier to know what cards are needed, and what new learners need to focus on as they mix-and-match different learning materials on their language journey. I wouldn't say that the vocab in this set is not useful as-is... but it would be a lot more helpful if it stuck to the set vocab list needed to accompany most other study materials. What is included is a hodge-podge of some N-5 and N-4 words/kanji... plus some random words that aren't on any of the JPLT lists.2) Remove the Furigana from the front of the cards... for 2 reasons.2a) Once you can read Hiragana, then you just read the Furigana part of the card and ignore the Kanji... which makes it harder to learn the Kanji because your eye is drawn to the part you can read. It doesn't make the cards useless... but the cards would be more helpful with just the Kanji on the front.2b) A lot of Kanji have multiple pronunciations depending on context and use-case. Having 1 prescribed furigana listed with each Kanji, and 1 example on the back is going to steer new learners down the wrong path of assumptions on how the language works. Most have only 1-2 common uses, so having at least those, with the occasional 3rd where appropriate would be helpful.3) Standardizing the layout of the back of the cards more. One of the best features of the Hiragana and Katakana card sets is that once you generally know the individual letters, then you can just use the example words on the back of the cards. And because the layout is so consistent, I can easily cover up the English translation, and pronunciation guide to just drill the individual words/phrases.If the backs of the cards were more standard in lay-out, then I could do something similar with these cards and use the picture for the prompt, and then either write or say the word as a sort of reverse flash card... but because the words and pictures are all over the place, it makes this very difficult to do.That being said... overall I would still say this is a pretty great set of cards for entry-level learners. They are color coded by category, and numbered, so you can pull out problem cards to drill as their own set, but easily get them back in order, or in their category to drill a bunch of related cards. They are the same shape, size and matierial (but not texture?) as the Hiragana and Katakana sets, making them easy to mix-and-match cards from the other 2 sets to study with. The cards are a hybrid paper-plastic material and simi-gloss finished which makes them at least water resistant, and easy to clean. As I often drill cards in the bath or during my lunch break, I often get them wet or dirty, and it is easy to clean them and keep them looking like new. They have so far survived soda, ranch dressing, and coffee spills, and I am sure that if I didn't clean them right away they would stain, but cleaning them quickly left no marks; good as new!The inclusion of full-color pictures is a nice touch! The other card sets have black text with a color-coded tab on each card, which probably helps keeps costs down. But having color images on the cards is very helpful to visual learners like myself.Lastly; Please follow this card set up with some JPLT level-based card sets! Even if some of the cards are redundant to this set, I would still pick them up! The Kanji are the ones I need the most help with, but the vocab words would be a huge help too. There is just so much free material out there that sticks to the JPLT words that this would be a huge help to be able to drill those specific words to boost studying. Might be hard pressed to find buyers for the 1000 kanji N-1 level list... but I bet a lot of people would be happy to pick up sets focused on N-5 to N-3 to get a solid foundation of vocabulary

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect learning tool

These are awesome. kana/Kanji on one side and eng/romaji on the other side along side a context sentence

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommend!!
*by on Reviewed in the United States May 3, 2021*

Hello! So far I’m quite happy with this product. I was a little worried at first because I was notified that it was delivered on the expected day (5/1), but I didn’t actually get them until today (5/3), but that was the mailman’s fault 😆I haven’t gotten a chance to use them just yet but they came in great condition, and are a good quality product. On the back of each card, it gives you an example sentence on how and where to place the word you’re learning on the card. All of the cards are also broken up into topics like food or date and time.Highly recommend!! I had a hard time finding ANY flash cards for Japanese so I recommend these!!
