The new ones are superb. The footbed is as it was when I bought some in 2002 from Shuh, with a good sized toe grip and the strap is quite soft. I rarely wear anything else in the summer. I find them best with a loose fitting strap, although for new wearers this may mean they are difficult to keep on as they do require the toes to work quite a bit, when loose. I know for guys they may seem a little 'different', but they are way more comfortable than flip flips and much better for the feet thanks to the anatomically contoured footbed. The original ones, which I used to wear in the 1960s didn't oxidize, and the newer Scholl sandals (the Pescatura ones are only available from Italy or importers of them) are made from artificial materials.
